Mi presentación/My presentation

My name is Rony Maffi Fernández, the vast majority of people who know me call me Maffi !! I am 42 years old, Venezuelan by birth but by feelings, I believe that all humanity is universal. I have a degree in environmental evaluation and management, a musician, a potter, a craftsman ............ Ok !!! I will tell you a little more about myself.

Un poco de mi historia / a little bit of my story

I was born on March 5, 1979 in the town of Araya, Sucre State, Venezuela. Son of a Venezuelan mother and an Italian father. I took my first steps in this beautiful town full of history, in its beautiful and paradisiacal beaches, among its fishermen, poets, musicians and other cultures.
I promise a post about my hometown in another opportunity to delight you with art and history.

From an early age I had a penchant for art. She could feel that he understood her, especially the music. Empirically he used to sing well-known songs in the same pitch, even making other voices above and below the pitch of the melody. He used any solid object to do the percussion.

My parents are part of this story. Whenever they could, they gave me musical instruments (string and percussion). Thus began my story in the art world.

I started out not knowing anything about string instruments. With the Venezuelan instrument known as the cuatro, with him, were my first notes. Between frets, strings and letting myself be guided by my musical ear, I met my first chords. I had no idea what it was doing or the name of the chords, but I enjoyed the harmony conveyed in the sound.

As time went by, at the age of ten, a great friend of the family gave me my first guitar and, as with the cuatro, everything emerged empirically. One day in a cultural meeting that I frequented, I noticed that some of the chords played by the musicians were the same as the ones I did, but with a big difference.

Mine were backwards !! They will wonder how the other way around? You are right! I'm left-handed. I learned to play the cuatro and the guitar without the help of a teacher or someone to advise me that left-handed instruments have the strings reversed. For this reason I can play left-handed stringed instruments for rights by reversing the fingering. Amazing, right?

I spent 15 years playing in rock bands playing the guitar, without knowing what a "C" (C) was. Being in the wonderful and magical world of music can develop my musical knowledge. I met many virtuosi of music of different nationalities, in different cities of Venezuela, among them very good teachers with whom I had the opportunity to learn the basics of theory and music theory. He was no longer that boy who played at making music empirically, a great door opened.

In the course of those years of study and cultural encounters, my connection with the art world became more consolidated. The stage comes when you order ideas, everything is a little clearer. The existence of musical taste begins. You become more sensitive, you define your:

Gustos por las artes / Tastes for the arts

I like the arts in general, but my great passion is music, I love music, I respect music, as well as respect the musical taste of each person. But since it is about my presentation, I can tell you that I like classical music, it is not my strong suit but I can feel what is interpreted in it. I like rock in its different genres. I am fascinated by jazz, blues, reegue, Latin jazz, punk, alternative music, ska, funk, soul and of course !!!! The musical diversity of my country Venezuela.

Regarding my connection with the world of ceramics and crafts, it was thanks to my mother Yesenia Fernández and her partner, my great friend Rubén Fuentes. With those two great cultures of my town, I was able to know a clay deposit from a very young age, I learned to recognize it and differentiate it from the common earth, how to extract it, process it, mold it, shape it and bake it.

So many years in the practice with ceramics, has allowed us to achieve a unique style in our work related to clay. We preserve ancient knowledge inherent in the manufacture of wind musical instruments, known in all cultures on earth. Here in Venezuela and in many parts of South America they are known as Ocarinas.
