Good evening everyone.
One of my long-term goals for a while now has been to run a marathon in under 3 hours.
Now, most people that have done any kind of competitive running before will know that this is not exactly an easy task. Running a sub 3-hour marathon seems to be a milestone that marks out a good runner.
So lately I have been considering committing to this goal and finally getting some closure in completing the challenge. After doing some online research I have come up with a training plan that I believe will allow me to achieve my goals.
This program will see me compete in a marathon around March/April 2018.
Due to other commitments, i plan to start training fully in January of next year and will follow the following training program.
Mon - 5 mile steady state(Recovery Run)
Tue - VO2 max session
Wed - 5 mile Tempo Run
Thu - Threshold session
Fri - Swimming(Recovery Session)
Sat - 10 mile Endurance Run
Sun - YASSO 800(6 reps)
These sessions will remain the same mostly throughout the 12 weeks that I will be training but the distances will increase to a peak(18 mile endurance run) and then taper before the race. I will also add a few strength and conditioning sessions, just to add some core strength into the mix.
To most, this may seem like I am biting off more than I can chew with an intense training program but I have a firm background in cross country running and have a solid base on which to build.
I will be using my YASSO 800 times as a monitor for my improvement approaching race day. At the moment I am currently able to sustain around 3:15 for every 800 meters for 7 reps.
If there are any experienced runners out there on Steemit that could give some advice or would like to discuss anything please feel free to speak up.
Stay tuned for more updates :)
