In the historic center of La Asunci贸n, capital of the state of Nueva Esparta in Venezuela, right next to the Plaza Bolivar, is the Nueva C谩diz Museum, a building in the style of the colonial era responsible for safeguarding much of the history of our state and part of what are the archaeological remains of the ruins of the island of Cubagua rescued after the tsunami. A real treasure for both residents and visitors, and a must for everyone.
This building is more than 70 years old and in its beginnings it was created to house the City Hall (what we know today as the Mayor's Office), and the jail, but over time it has had several uses, such as public library and for some years it has been used as a museum and to date retains the same architecture of the colonial era in which it was built.
It has several rooms that keep real treasures, and that show beauty even in its walls which in its lower part have handmade wooden sheets that give it a really beautiful charm, a very nice work of cabinetmaking. It also has an internal courtyard, characteristic of the constructions of the colonial era with leafy trees and some sculptures that enhance its beauty.
Throughout the tour you will find pieces in carved wood with many years of antiquity and very well preserved as the desk that is right at the entrance with a book for the signature of visitors, as well as different sculptures also in wood.
To the left is the first room that houses very interesting and varied objects since there are two carved wooden works of the image of Jesus, as well as different objects used in the exploitation of pearls and an ancient armor, all quite well preserved considering the years they have. In this room I do not know why I had a really strange physical sensation, I just wanted to get out of there, I do not know why, it was something very strange and that I did not feel during the tour, but now that I think about it, it could have been because of my claustrophobic condition, since it was a very small space full of many things.
This room leads to the second floor which is accessed by stairs that are quite steep, and although climbing them is not a problem, you must go down carefully and hold on to the beautifully carved wooden steps.
Once you get upstairs there are two more rooms, a large one in which is the exhibition "Pearls of Cubagua "*, which as its name suggests is dedicated entirely to show information and objects recovered from the island, and as you can imagine it is a very interesting place, since the archaeological samples date back many years, also has beautiful wooden windows that give us a beautiful view of the square and its surroundings.
Right next to this is another room with different paintings, mostly abstract and really beautiful, but its main attraction for me is a model of the cathedral of La Asuncion.
Continuing on the main floor, but on the right side, right in front of the first room, there is another room with a display of really beautiful paintings and sculptures and some chairs from the colonial era that serve as decoration for the room, which by the way is the only one with air conditioning and excellent lighting that allows you to calmly enjoy all the art that is in the place.
When leaving the hall, just before going to the inner courtyard there is a small room that although it had no name I called it the music room, a rather small place with an old record player and lots of records, cassettes and VHS and BETAMAX tapes (the youngsters surely do not know anything about this 馃ぃ), apart from many more paintings. Curiously this place was much smaller than the first room, however I didn't feel uncomfortable at all, maybe because I love music and the place brought back memories of my childhood (I don't want to think anything weird). Anyway, it is a very particular room.
Then we have the inner courtyard, it is not too big but it is really nice full of trees and plants that spread around the place and on the right side we find a huge model of the island that some time ago was filled with water and looked really nice, it still is, but with water, it is certainly something else.
As you can see, it is an absolutely beautiful place, full of our history, where in every step you can find a little piece of the life of those who were before us in this wonderful land, so if you haven't visited it yet, you can't miss it.
En el casco hist贸rico de La Asunci贸n, capital del estado Nueva Esparta en Venezuela, justo a un lado de la Plaza Bol铆var, se encuentra el Museo Nueva C谩diz, una edificaci贸n al estilo de la 茅poca de la colonia encargada de resguardar buena parte de la historia de nuestro estado y parte de lo que son los restos arqueol贸gicos de las ruinas de la isla de Cubagua rescatados despu茅s del maremoto. Un verdadero tesoro tanto para residentes como visitantes, y una parada obligada para todos.
Esta edificaci贸n tiene m谩s de 70 a帽os y en sus inicios fue creada para que funcionara en ella el Ayuntamiento (lo que hoy d铆a conocemos como Alcald铆a), y la c谩rcel, pero con el tiempo ha tenido varios usos, como por ejemplo el de biblioteca p煤blica y desde hace algunos a帽os funciona como museo y hasta la fecha conserva la misma arquitectura de la 茅poca de la colonia en la cual fue construida.
Cuenta con varias salas que guardan verdaderos tesoros, y que muestran belleza incluso en sus paredes las cuales en su parte baja tienen l谩minas de madera trabajadas a mano que le aportan un encanto realmente hermoso, un trabajo muy lindo de ebanister铆a. Adem谩s cuenta con un patio interno, caracter铆stico de las construcciones de la 茅poca colonial con 谩rboles frondosos y algunas esculturas que realzan mucho m谩s su belleza.
En todo el recorrido se van a encontrar con piezas en madera labrada con muchos a帽os de antig眉edad y muy bien conservadas como el escritorio que se encuentra justo en la entrada con un libro para la firma de los visitantes, as铆 como diferentes esculturas tambi茅n en madera.
A la izquierda se encuentra la primera sala que alberga objetos bien interesantes y un poco variados ya que hay dos obras talladas en madera de la imagen de Jes煤s, as铆 como diferentes objetos utilizados en la explotaci贸n de las perlas as铆 como una armadura antigua, todo bastante conservado tomando en cuenta los a帽os que tienen. En esta sala no s茅 por qu茅 tuve una sensaci贸n f铆sica realmente extra帽a, simplemente quer铆a salir de ah铆, no s茅 por qu茅, fue algo muy extra帽o y que no sent铆 durante el recorrido, pero ahora que lo pienso, pudo ser por mi condici贸n de claustrof贸bica, ya que se trataba de un espacio bastante reducido lleno de muchas cosas.
Esta sala nos conduce al segundo piso al cual se accede a trav茅s de unas escaleras que por cierto son bastante inclinadas, y aunque subirlas no representan un problema, se deben bajar con cuidado y sujetarse del hermos铆simo pasamos tallado en madera.
Una vez llegas arriba se encuentran dos salas m谩s, una grande en la cual se encuentra la exposici贸n "Perlas de Cubagua", que como su nombre lo indica est谩 dedicada en su totalidad a mostrar informaci贸n y objetos recuperados de la isla, y como se imaginar谩n es un lugar bastante interesante, ya que las muestras arqueol贸gicas datan de muchos a帽os, adem谩s cuenta con unos ventanales hermosos de madera que nos regalan una vista hermosa de la plaza y sus alrededores.
Justo al lado de esta se encuentra otra sala con diferentes pinturas, en su mayor铆a abstractas y realmente bellas, pero su mayor atractivo para mi es una maqueta de la catedral de La Asunci贸n.
Continuando con la planta principal, pero del lado derecho, justo frente a la primera sala, se encuentra otra con una muestra de pinturas y esculturas realmente hermosas y unas sillas de la 茅poca de la colonia que sirven de decoraci贸n a la sala, que por cierto es la 煤nica que cuenta con aire acondicionado y una iluminaci贸n excelente que te permite disfrutar con calma de todo el arte que hay en el lugar.
Al salir de la sala, justo antes de seguir al patio interno hay un peque帽o sal贸n que aunque no ten铆a nombre yo le puse el sal贸n musical, un lugarcito bastante peque帽o con un tocadiscos antiguo y much铆simos discos, casetes y cintas de VHS y BETAMAX (los jovencitos seguro no saben nada de esto 馃ぃ), aparte de muchas m谩s pinturas. Curiosamente este lugar era mucho m谩s peque帽o que la primera sala, sin embargo no me sent铆 para nada inc贸moda, quiz谩 porque amo la m煤sica y el lugar me trajo recuerdos de mi infancia (no quiero pensar nada raro). En fin, es una salita bien particular.
Luego tenemos el patio interno, no es demasiado grande pero es realmente lindo lleno de 谩rboles y plantas que se extienden por los alrededores del lugar y a su lado derecho nos encontramos con una maqueta enorme de la isla que hace tiempo era llenada con agua y se ve铆a realmente bonito, a煤n lo es, pero con el agua, sin dudas es otra cosa.
Como pueden ver, es un lugar absolutamente hermoso, lleno de nuestra historia, donde en cada paso podr谩s encontrar un pedacito de la vida de quienes estuvieron antes que nosotros en esta tierra maravillosa, as铆 que si no lo has visitado a煤n, ni puedes dejar de hacerlo.
