Hello chicos, qu茅 tal todo? El d铆a de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes la transformaci贸n de una cestita de mimbre para el cuarto nuevo de Miranda. Esta cesta tiene su historia, y es que tiene cerca de 17 a帽os y form贸 parte de lo que fue la habitaci贸n de mi hijo mayor Mat铆as cuando era un beb茅 y como era tan linda la us茅 tambi茅n para Miranda y hasta el d铆a de hoy la conservo, de hecho Miranda la ten铆a a煤n por ah铆 en su cuarto llena de cualquier cosa, por lo que su estado no era el mejor y necesitaba urgente un cambio.
Hi, guys, how's everything going? Today I want to share with you the makeover of a little wicker basket for Miranda's new room. This basket has a story behind it鈥攊t鈥檚 about 17 years old and was part of my oldest son Mat铆as鈥檚 room when he was a baby. Since it was so cute, I used it for Miranda too, and I鈥檝e kept it to this day. In fact, Miranda still had it lying around in her room, filled with all sorts of things, so it wasn鈥檛 in the best shape and desperately needed a makeover.
Esta cesta al ser para la habitaci贸n de un beb茅 ten铆a en su parte superior una cabeza de oso con sus bracitos y en la parte de en frente dos patitas, por otro lado en la parte de adentro ten铆a un forro que en alg煤n momento fue azul con puntos blancos, y todas esas cositas fue las que decid铆 eliminar para darle un cambio radical y usarla en la habitaci贸n de Miri en la repisa nueva que le hizo su mami, y definitivamente no parece para nada la misma cesta con la que comenc茅 a trabajar, pero sin m谩s, vamos con el paso a paso.
Since this basket was meant for a baby鈥檚 room, it had a bear鈥檚 head with little arms on top and two little legs on the front; on the inside, it had a lining that used to be blue with white dots, and I decided to remove all those little details to give it a radical makeover and use it in Miri鈥檚 room on the new shelf her mom made for her. It definitely doesn鈥檛 look anything like the basket I started working on, but without further ado, let鈥檚 get to the step-by-step guide.

Para la transformaci贸n de esta cesta lo primero que hice fue retirar las piezas del osito y la tela del forro, que por dicha no fue tan dif铆cil de despegar, y lo mejor fue que el osito no se da帽贸, as铆 que quiz谩 lo uso en otro proyecto.
To transform this basket, the first thing I did was remove the teddy bear parts and the lining fabric, which, luckily, wasn't too hard to peel off. The best part was that the teddy bear wasn't damaged, so maybe I'll use it in another project.
Una vez retir茅 todo, lo siguiente que hice fue lavarla muy bien con detergente para platos y una esponja para retirar as铆 toda la suciedad y dejar la madera completamente limpia para luego poder pintarla.
Once I had removed everything, the next thing I did was wash it thoroughly with dish soap
and a sponge to remove all the dirt and leave the wood completely clean so I could paint it later.
El siguiente paso fue eliminar todo rastro de pega, y este s铆 fue un trabajito complicado ya que la pega ten铆a much铆simos a帽os y estaba bastante dura, as铆 que para esto utilice una herramienta de una navaja que tiene mi esposo en casa, y con ayuda de ella fui despegando toda la pega con mucho cuidado para no da帽ar el material de la cesta hasta que pude retirar por completo toda la pega.
The next step was to remove every trace of glue, and this was indeed a tricky job since the glue was many years old and had hardened quite a bit. So, I used a tool from a pocket knife my husband has at home, and with its help, I carefully scraped away all the glue鈥攖aking great care not to damage the basket鈥檚 material鈥攗ntil I was able to remove it completely.
Una vez que la cesta estuvo libre de pega lleg贸 el momento de pintarla, y para esto utilic茅 pintura acr铆lica blanca, y la apliqu茅 con un pincel peque帽o asegur谩ndome de pintar muy bien por todos lados, sobre todo entre las ranuras del mimbre.
En total apliqu茅 dos capas de pintura, dejando secar muy bien entre cada capa.
Once the basket was free of glue, it was time to paint it. I used white acrylic paint and applied it with a small brush, making sure to paint every part thoroughly, especially between the slats of the wicker.
In total, I applied two coats of paint, letting each coat dry completely before applying the next one.
El siguiente paso era elaborar el forro y como este ser铆a de tul, la verdad es que ser铆a bastante fastidioso coserlo, as铆 que pens茅 que lo m谩s r谩pido ser铆a utilizar el silicon caliente para pegarlo, as铆 que cort茅 el rect谩ngulo del fondo y lo hice en duplicado para que la cesta quedara bien cubierta y se pudiera apreciar el color rosado del tul.
Una vez cort茅 las dos piezas, las pegu茅 en el fondo de la cesta, seguidamente cort茅 un rect谩ngulo del ancho de la cesta y del largo, dejando 1 cm aproximadamente en la parte de arriba para doblar y pegar, y la pegu茅 por todo el borde superior y luego por el borde inferior, y al igual que con el fondo, recort茅 dos piezas para que el color quedara visible.
Como pueden este tul tiene una decoraci贸n de estrellas doradas s煤per lindo, aunque la verdad es que ni siquiera se ve porque la cesta est谩 como empotrada dentro de la repisa, pero de igual forma quer铆a que estuviese linda porque quiz谩 m谩s adelante se puede utilizar en otro lugar donde se aprecie el forro.
The next step was to make the lining, and since it was going to be tulle, it would actually be quite a hassle to sew it, so I figured the quickest way would be to use hot glue to attach it. I cut out the rectangle for the bottom and made two of them so the basket would be well covered and the pink color of the tulle would show through.
Once I鈥檇 cut out the two pieces, I glued them to the bottom of the basket. Next, I cut a rectangle the same width and length as the basket, leaving about 1 cm at the top to fold over and glue, and I glued it along the entire top edge and then the bottom edge. Just like with the bottom, I cut out two pieces so the color would be visible.
As you can see, this tulle has a super cute gold star pattern, although to be honest, you can鈥檛 even see it because the basket is sort of tucked into the shelf. But I still wanted it to look nice because maybe later on I can use it somewhere else where the lining will be visible.
Como ven, aunque fue un trabajo bastante sencillo, la diferencia es del cielo a la tierra y esta cestita cambi贸 su apariencia por completo y viene a complementar perfectamente la habitaci贸n de Miranda, de hecho, es una de las piezas m谩s lindas que tiene la repisa, y me ahorre el tener que comprar una, as铆 que result贸 excelente!
As you can see, even though it was a pretty simple project, the difference is like night and day鈥攖his little basket has completely transformed its look and complements Miranda鈥檚 room perfectly. In fact, it鈥檚 one of the cutest items on the shelf, and it saved me from having to buy one, so it turned out great!
