"Cocada" is a drink that in Margarita Island you will find almost in every corner, and I thank God for that, because it is absolutely delicious, and for those who love coconut like me, it is a gift from heaven.
Prepared with the flesh of the tender coconut and the water from it, it is one of the most popular drinks in Margarita, especially in the towns closest to the beach, and there is no restaurant by the sea that does not offer this delicacy.
The best of all is that being surrounded by palm trees everywhere, a good glass of cocada only costs 1$, and there are even promotions of 2 cocadas for 1$, so it is not expensive to treat yourself from time to time, and taking advantage of the fact that a month ago my son Matías had a chess tournament in a small restaurant where of course there was cocada, I decided to try it.
The restaurant "Donde Jota ", is on the roadside, on the way to the best beaches of the island (playa el agua and playa parguito), and its menu is basically Creole food, or traditional Venezuelan, so you can find cachapas with different accompaniments and fillings, soups, fried pork, and so on.
And among the drinks they offer is the cocada, and with a promo that you have to take advantage of (2x1$), and that was perfect for us, who just wanted to try how they were, since we have so far a favorite place for cocadas.
Of course I took the opportunity to take pictures of the preparation, always thinking of sharing them with you through @liketu, and I realized while preparing them that unlike what I thought, they don't use powdered milk, it's just tender coconut and coconut water.
Here they usually add condensed milk, both to the mixture and after it's ready as a topping, as well as vanilla, but this is optional, so if you don't want to add it, don't add it.
And how was it? Pretty good I must say. We ordered it with vanilla because we had never tasted it like this, but we definitely prefer it without, a good "cocada" doesn't need anything else but coconut.
