This is our humble abode, from the front. I'm not sure you've ever seen it on Steemit - I'm not sure why. Perhaps because I've never really been totally satisfied with how it looks.

Today we had a big clean up of the front yard, and cut down a tree - the darker brown one in the middle. This is because we are FINALLY GETTING SOLAR PANELS. Totally clapping hands together with delight and excitement. We have wanted them for years, but they've been too expensive. However, the government has got some awesome rebates at the moment so we are going for it and should have them within the month! The whole roof will be full of them - yay for alt tech!

However, it did mean that we have to think about how much sun the roof actually gets as we do have some gum trees in the garden! That one I have wanted to get rid of for ages, mainly as no one really can see our front door very well.

Can you see it in the picture below? Most people wander down our driveway looking confused.

We did feel a real pang in our hearts for cutting down a tree - we always feel awful cutting down living trees. We're always cutting down dead ones for our woodfire, but alive, breathing, beautiful trees? Eek. It's always a dilemma.

But, without the tree there, we get sun on our solar panels and that's a good thing. It's more inviting and easy to see the front door. I'm going to get one with glass in it so the winter sun streams through even more, and keep it a timber colour, more a pale, birch like veneer which will be warmer and more welcoming. I shifted a few planters around, washed the front windows, popped some bright yellow cushions on the chairs out the front, and voila - feels like a facelift.

It also means we might be inspired to finally paint the other ply panels that go under the eaves, if we can find more plywood. The first photo here is a trick - because I cut out the bit we haven't done, which you can see in the photo below.

We also chatted about finding some double glazed windows for the front of the house and insulation underneath it - just to make it far more sustainable. It's not a strawbale home, and it's not a palace, but it's our palace and we do pour our heart and soul into making the best of what we have. We feel pretty lucky really.

Poor old Jamie - he could barely move at the end of the day. Cutting down trees and lugging wood from one side of the property to the other will do that to you.

And we were going to rest today.
