I have always thought about this idea for a very long time. We have so much of solar light in India. Especially except for like 2 or 3 months we will be able to get maximum efficiency from Solar for the remaining months. I used to wonder why not change the body of the cars to be made of solar panels so that it can charge the vehicle constantly during driving or when not driving. My car is mostly parked in the hot sun. If a facility like that is available and if my vehicle is parked for 8 ours when I'm in the office, it should technically generate enough power to charge the battery back.

There has to be two reasons why this idea is not live yet. One is that the efficiency from these solar panels may not be high enough to help in charging. I always wonder there is politics behind this. That can be then second reason where for political reasons the top companies may not allow this to happen. If this becomes efficient and comes to market, then people may not prefer normal cars. So that can reduce the market for them a little bit. I don't know what is the real reason though.
Today I read in the news that some EV companies in china is already experimenting this idea. I don't know when the first car will be out with this. But it will be wonderful if this idea goes live soon. We have also been getting panels that are highly efficient producing a lot of energy. I saw in youtube where someone experimented adding a solar panel on top like wing in top of the car. This will act as the shade for the car and at the same time it will also charge the battery when the car is parked. It will be nice to have a control switch in the car itself that will open up this panel on top of the car like a cover and if the button is pressed again it closes and gets compressed into the roof of the car.
That is one idea. The next idea would be to have the body of the car fully made of solar panels. If that happens, even during running, the car should be able to charge. Maybe a battery seperation can be made where one battery keeps charging and another battery keeps recharging. These ideas are all experimental only. A proper research needs to be done on this. Let's see.
