Who gained a dog during COVID? Six years on, and I'm wondering if people will get another one when their fur baby reaches its inevitable demise (because dogs, like men and gods, also must die) or whether

Perhaps it's just a coincidence - my good mood this past week seems to have lined up with dogsitting the neighbour's wire haired pointer, Amy. Yes I know, who calls a dog Amy? I have yet to ask. The fact

Having a dog makes you get out more - we're dog sitting at the moment (more on that in another post) and so we have to get out twice a day to keep her happy and stop the back yard becoming full of excrement.

I love Sundays. Yesterday we spent the arvo in my Mum's garden mowing, weeding, fertilising the fruit trees and filling up one of her raised garden beds. Still lots to do, but it feels more manageable

Big up to all my Hive friends who are original, thoughtful, and human a.f. I'm going to be unequivocal about this: If everyone uses Ai to write Hive content, Hive is no longer a platform I want to be on.

Just when I was thinking chronic hip pain was going to be my fucking life, a Bowen therapist handed me a book, suggesting that there were a few things about how my pain was presenting that suggested it

This week @deirdyweirdy said that she'll never get over the miracle of growing things that she can eat. Fuck yeah. If you've got to that point in your gardening journey you're never going back. And even

We never really celebrated Father's Day - I think we saw Dad often enough that we didn't feel the need to have a special day for him. My sister sent me this photo last weekend though on the Australian

Yesterday's read, ironically enough, was called Yesteryear, and I finished it by 5pm. I did skim a lot of it as it was thick and I would have been bored with the excruciating detail of the narrator's every

The death of Wendell Berry this week infused my algorithm with his poems, set to animation, superimposed over photographs, or simply the poem, black times new roman over white, letting the words speak

In the midst of my blackest depression last week I was barely putting one foot in front of the other. Seeing that, my darling husband put his bike plans on hold and got me into the garden. Bowerbirds singing,

We missed our August 20th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago, by the time I got to finishing this post off in my drafts. We're terrible at dates and just forgot. It didn't matter. We don't need a day

When I was young Mum taught herself how to cook vegetarian meals. She went to a few classes and that was it - Dad didn't touch meat til the day he died and she's still staunchly vegetarian. Dad loved these

It's been a while since I've got out my camera, mainly as I find it hard because usually I'd talk to Dad about it, and Dad would always be talking to me about photography. But the orchids are out in the

I don't buy art often. It's so expensive - and justifiably so. But I kinda knew I'd splash our on one of these whales when an exhibition opened up at the local art house. I'd seen them online for a while,

My husband would roll his eyes at this, but fuck this has been a strong moon. @haveyoumetellie called my attention to it the other day - like many of us on Hive, the last few weeks have been a bit rough.

It seems even that the backyard can be a site of anxiety these days. I'm reading stories of the drought in the northern hemisphere and freaking out a little about my own garden in what will be, they say,

When we first saw our bathroom it was a bit of a mess - it needed a paint and it looked very tired. The taps were from the '80's, as were the handles, and the tiles seemed old fashioned and ugly. The benchtop

For weeks now I've been feeling really depressed. It's not a usual state for me - I usually shake things off quickly. This time I've been as close to wanting antidepressants as anything, but as usual,

If there's any better way to wake up than a mate texting you and saying 'are you coming flying', I'd like to hear it. I've known this guy for 18 years and it's the first time I've been up - mainly as he
