I love Sundays.
Yesterday we spent the arvo in my Mum's garden mowing, weeding, fertilising the fruit trees and filling up one of her raised garden beds. Still lots to do, but it feels more manageable now. I was pretty achy round my lower back but got up and went for a dawn surf. Got straight to my feet on a couple of waves (thanks hip mobility exercises) but it was hard to find the right spot and kinda windy.
Then I came home to scrambled eggs and a quick tidy up (when we get up at 5.30 am and go surfing and Jamie off on his long bike ride, there tends to be shit everywhere - unmade beds, pajamas on the kitchen floor, empty wine glasses from the night before) and change the bedding to get the washing out - it is heading for a top of 22 today, yay Spring, and that warm breeze means the sheets are going to dry fast as you like.
Then my sister messaged to see if I wanted to go on a recon mission to see the spot Dad wanted his ashes spread as finally we're doing it next Saturday. We were working out the logistics with the tides and it looks like next Saturday will be just as warm and offshore.
Then it was home for a quick e-bike up the shops because I'd run out of marj and olive oil, and bought a sneaky cheeky pack of almond fingers (do you have these where you live? Think cakey and marzipany - yum), and came home to open up the house, make another coffee and put some tunes on.
I had this song in my head since I listened to a reggae version on the radio the other day by a girl group called 15 16 17 - you can listen to it [here() but I am not sure they beat the Stones version.
When I listen to these old Stones albums I think of Dad in that era. He had all those old ones on vinyl (though they weren't old at the time haha!) and it makes me think of happy weekend mornings, the music up fucking loud on the stereo and my parents in a great mood, or being asleep on a pile of coats at a party listening to the adults laughing and listening to music with the kids asleep in the other room.
I do think Some Girls is one of the best Stones albums - thoughts? I used to think it was Exile on Main Street but my uncle (Dad's brother) and I were thinking this one now.
And I can hear Dad with his sillies on doing Mick Jagger vocals. It's a nice way to remember him even though as teenagers we'd roll our eyes at him.
I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, "You know, you always have the
Lord by your side,"
And I was so pleased to be informed of this
That I ran twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord
The neighbours dropped off Amy the dog as they're off to France for three weeks and we were happy to do them a favour. She's a wirey haired pointer.
Most of the afternoon we just hang out in the garden. When Jamie got home half dead from his massive cycle we drank a bottle of red wine and chilled out.
Fuck I love Sundays. Vibin'.
