The world seems unfair sometimes when tragedy happens to good people. We kind of wonder why bad things happen to good people and how some things are just unexplainably painful to experience. You live and do everything right, but then in the end it's like the world and everything is against you. We might not see beyond our pain the good that there could be, even when bad things happen.
Greater is a 2016 biographical sports drama directed by David L. Hunt, based on the life of Brandon Burlsworth, played by Christopher Severio, a boy who was rejected by football coaches for not being up to the regular-sized football players.
He was very determined to play professionally, so he never let the words they said against him stop him. What matters more is what you say and believe about yourself, and not what people say about you. His coach taught him that someone who works hard to be good at something has more to learn than someone whose talent comes more naturally.
Brandon Burlsworth not only believed in himself, but he also had strong faith in God's plan for his life. His faith was also so strong that he refused anything less than what he wanted for himself, rejecting a full-ride scholarship that offered him less than what he believed was God's plan for his life.
His brother's faith was tested when Brandon
Burlsworth was involved in a road accident that took his life at an early age, just a few days after he was drafted to play in the NFL. He had questions he found impossible to answer. He wondered why bad things kept happening to good people, even when they had kept to the Lord’s command.
He found the phrase trust in the Lord strange because of the circumstances of his brother’s death.
The life of Brandon Burlsworth teaches us that nothing is impossible when we set our minds to it. His story makes us understand that when you really set your mind on something, you can definitely achieve it.
His life also teaches humility: “Character is what you do when no one is watching”.
He pushed his mates to train harder and turned their losing streak into a winning streak. He became a motivation to the rest of his team; not only did he make them a better team, but he brought them closer to his faith.
Greater is an inspirational true story of Brandon Burlsworth’s journey of faith and morals; the movie serves as a motivation and has a strong emotional impact. Great acting by all the actors. I recommend the movie to fans of true-life stories.
