Ofelia

¡Vete no quiero verte!".

Ofelia

The story of Ofelia Benavides, is one of the most common of our days, a small town girl, with good principles and very beautiful. It was the year 2000 and she started working in an educational institution as a teacher, she soon gained the esteem of the directors for being very responsible and an excellent teacher; her students admired her for her charisma and dedication.

One day while she was on public transportation on her way to work, she crossed paths with love, by those coincidences of life, they shared the same seat. He was captivated by her beauty, they smiled and introduced themselves, they shared phone numbers and from that moment on, communication between them was total and daily; they went out together and began a loving relationship that promised happiness.

Their courtship was very passionate and intense; one day, Ofelia fainted at work and was taken to the doctor, who confirmed what for her was a suspicion: she was pregnant; her parents were gentlemen with deep-rooted values and would not pass on such a slip, so she had to marry Alfredo. At the beginning of their marriage everything went well, her husband was attentive, helpful and helped her with the household chores; she continued teaching.

After seven years of marriage and with two children, problems began to arise. Alfredo always arrived late, drunk and yelled at her and the children; Ofelia did not dare to tell anyone about those problems. Her coworkers saw her in poor health and asked her what was wrong, but she always avoided the subject.

One day, Alfredo arrived drunk and shouted that he wanted food; Ofelia got up patiently to prepare it for him, to prevent the children from waking up. He sat in front of the television, waiting for his food; she delivered it to him, but when he took the first bite he spat it out and threw the plate at her feet. He grabbed her by the hair and hit her; she tried to defend herself, but it was impossible.

From that day on the abuse was constant; the children were more than aware of that sad situation. She begged him not to scream for the children, but that was like challenging a hungry lion, her screams were heard by all the neighbors.

One morning Juana, the next door neighbor, suggested that she denounce him. She would accompany her and serve as a witness, but Ofelia refused, always hoping that he would come to his senses and change. At night she only cried and thought how to get out of that hell, she was too afraid; many times she asked herself, "How can one go from love to fear? At what point did I lose myself in this Underworld of pain?" These were recurring questions in his head. He thought a lot about Juana's proposal, he also thought about his parents and what he would do. She had already resigned from her teaching position because she was ashamed to be seen beaten, her world was destroyed.

One day her eldest son asked her "How long are you going to put up with that drunkard?" She remained silent, she felt ashamed before her son; the boy raised his face and looking her in the eyes, he begged her: "Let's get out of this hell! From that day on, Ofelia, took out the courage that had abandoned her and made the wise decision to leave.

While Alfredo left for work, Ofelia took her things and her children, leaving for a far away state, where the madman would never hear from her again.

It was not easy for Ofelia to start from scratch, but she still had the school salary; the ministry had not yet taken her off the payroll. She rented a modest apartment and started selling cakes that she made herself on weekends. The children helped her and from that venture, she went on to rent a place and her cakes became the most famous and sought after in the area. Having a fixed place, she also had to have help and she hired a professional baker and her business was very successful.

Alfredo Camargo was looking for her and through friends, he found her. From that moment on, he begged her to come back; he told her that he had changed and she always told him the same thing: "I am a woman who for a while lost her self-esteem, but today I am aware of how much I am worth and how much I love myself. I don't want to see you!

It was 2012 and "ofelia's cakes" was a brand name in the whole city, and hers was one of the most recognized and popular bakeries when it came to celebrations and parties.
