Greetings, Hivers.
Today I want to share a few photos I took of two people during the procession of La Merced in Old Havana. An elderly man who was asking for a bit of monetary help, and a young guy selling religious items and magazines to get by. At first glance they seemed very different, but in the end they had something in common: both are trying to move forward however they can.
I鈥檝e always believed that when you photograph someone in these situations, there鈥檚 also a human responsibility behind it. That鈥檚 why before taking the camera out, I stopped to talk with them, listen to their stories, and give them some help. Sometimes a few minutes of attention mean more than the photo itself. In the case of the old man, the need was obvious; and with the young man, you could also feel his struggles, even if he tried to hide them behind a shy smile.
These photos are not just images. They鈥檙e a way to give them visibility, to remind others that there are people who need real and constant support. I hope that anyone who passes by where they are can offer them a hand as well. It costs nothing to be a little more human, and for many of them, that small gesture means everything.

Hoy les voy a compartir unas pocas fotos que les hice a dos personas el d铆a de la procesi贸n de la Merced en La Habana Vieja. Un se帽or mayor que estaba pidiendo una ayuda monetaria y un muchacho joven que vende art铆culos y revistas religiosas para poder sobrevivir. A simple vista parec铆an muy diferentes, pero al final los dos ten铆an algo en com煤n: ambos est谩n intentando salir adelante como pueden.
Siempre he pensado que cuando uno fotograf铆a a alguien en estas situaciones, tambi茅n hay una responsabilidad humana detr谩s. Por eso, antes de sacar la c谩mara, me detuve a hablar con ellos, escuchar un poco sus historias y darles una ayuda. A veces unos minutos de atenci贸n valen m谩s que la propia foto. En el caso del se帽or, la necesidad era evidente; en el del muchacho, sus dificultades tambi茅n, aunque tratara de esconderlas detr谩s de su sonrisa t铆mida.
Estas fotos no son solo im谩genes. Son una forma de darles visibilidad, de recordar que existen personas que necesitan apoyo real y constante. Ojal谩 que quienes pasen por donde ellos est谩n puedan brindarles una mano tambi茅n. No cuesta nada ser un poco m谩s humanos, y para muchos de ellos ese peque帽o gesto significa much铆simo.
