It’s a fairly popular and, in my opinion, highly successful concept to bring to life, not just on paper, but through structured audio compositions. Music critics agree, with most highlighting the band's growth in both songwriting and musicianship. This is truly one of the most intriguing and unusual releases for CHEVELLE. So, let’s break down briefly why I see it this way.
To me, CHEVELLE has always been a second-tier band playing "safe" alternative music. Of course, ever since their early studio works, a distinct progressive influence — particularly from TOOL — was glaringly obvious. Yet, it felt as though the guys deliberately avoided diving too deep into progressive metal. Now, however, that lean towards prog-metal is striking right from the intro.
Despite the songs on the album being noticeably "lighter" in performance compared to, say, La Gárgola, the vocal arrangements here are far more captivating. I also can't overlook the spectacular, atmospheric, and progressive structures of the guitar parts. Frankly, this was the exact nuance that won me over during the listening experience. The production also deserves major credit: while listening to this music, I felt as if I were watching scenes from a dystopian sci-fi movie.
Overall, I highly recommend experiencing this album from start to finish — don't shuffle the tracks and don't just focus on the singles. While the singles are undoubtedly great, the record truly shines when treated as a cohesive piece. That said, if you want to capture the album's exact vibe from just a single track, go ahead and turn on the six-minute blockbuster “Self Destructor”.

Це досить популярна і, на мою думку, вдала концепція для втілення її не тільки на папері, а й у вигляді структурованих аудіокомпозицій. Зі мною згодні й музичні критики, котрі в більшості виділили ріст колективу в плані написання текстів та музики. Це дійсно один із найбільш цікавих і незвичних релізів для CHEVELLE. Тож давайте коротко розберемо, чому я так вважаю.
Для мене CHEVELLE завжди був гуртом другого ешелону, котрий грає безпечну альтернативну музику. Звичайно, ще з перших студійних робіт дуже чітко прослуховувався вплив прогресиву, а особливо TOOL. Але хлопці ніби навмисне уникали поглиблення в цей жанр. Тепер же нахил саме до прогресивного металу чутно просто з інтро.
Попри те, що пісні на альбомі значно «легші» за виконанням, ніж у тому ж «La Gárgola», вокальні партії тут набагато цікавіші. Не можна забути і про ефектні, атмосферні структури гітарних партій. Мабуть, саме цей нюанс мене підкупив при прослуховуванні. Також своє діло зробило якісне продюсування: слухаючи цю музику, я ніби дивився кадри з антиутопічного кінофільму.
Взагалі, альбом я радив би слухати виключно від початку до кінця — не перемішувати треки й не акцентувати увагу тільки на синглах. Вони, звичайно, класні, але платівка працює як єдине ціле. Проте якщо ви хочете прямо з одного треку познайомитись із настроєм альбому — сміливо вмикайте шестихвилинний блокбастер «Self Destructor».
Тим, хто іще не знайомий з гуртом і хоче поринути в їхню творчість саме в альбомному форматі, я б радив почати саме з « ». Це зріла, концептуальна, космічна та незвичайна музична глава в історії CHEVELLE.
