A lot of the birds have flown South now that the sunny days of summer have passed and the colder weather is here until springtime.
One of the birds I miss seeing and hearing their happy songs in the mornings is the red-breasted robin.
These happy industrious songbirds keep busy all day walking the lawn searching for worms and insects. They can be seen stopping and starting as they listen to hear any grubs or worms moving beneath the soil.
Since they spent so much of the day walking the lawn, their main danger is from snakes, cats or hawks.
They are one of the first birds to lay eggs when they return in the spring.
The robin keeps his own council but will not take any crap from the blue jays.
Here the robin holds his ground against them as he checks what they are eating.

I hope there is safe travelling for the lovely robins with all the storms and fires in our volatile weather as I look forward to their return in a few months.
