Hello, my dear hive friends. First of all, I am very sorry for sending my report late. The Wednesday walk was a great experience for me when I visited miners on the site where they were carrying out their activities while on a health mission.
As many people know that miners don't have all the time to visit a health care facility for medical check-ups and treatment if need be, but they prefer to take traditional herbs for the treatment. Especially, some tribes don't believe in modern medicine except they take their local herbs to treat their ailment.
When my team got there, they were thinking that it was the government that set up people to disturb their activities because the people they were working for may not get a license to operate as a miner. We assumed they are illegal miners and they just hide in the bush to carry out their job.
On getting there, I was able to calm them down because they were fearful of being arrested. We told them that we are on a health mission and we were not there to disturb their activities. Meanwhile, some of them were returning from the bush to the site. They said hehe! What do you want here?
We replied that we came here to give them free health care because we know that you are always busy with work on-site and we want you also to benefit from what people in the city are enjoying so that you won't be left out. We told them that it is important to know their HIV status and start treatment immediately.
One of them was curious about it but later, another one said you mean HIV? And I said HIV.
"So you want to put us in trouble if we know our status now. Is as if one has collected a death sentence. And said NO."
If you know your HIV status now, it will help you how to manage yourself before it is too late. It is easier to manage when the infection remains HIV but it is not easy when HIV is now getting the stage of AIDS because it is an advanced stage of HIV.
It is good for one to be checking one status every three, three months to guide against a weakened immune system. The immune system is the one protecting us from a bad infection. That is why everyone should be eating fruits and vegetables regularly to boost our immune system thereby chances of getting an infection will be slim.
By and large, the majority of them were convinced to surrender to the HIV test. The reactive ones had been taken to the hospital for confirmation and proper enrollment into care. They appreciated what we have done for them and were happy in the end!
The following video and images are evidence to share with you to view 馃憞
