Hello guys, so I have been hearing people talk about the possibilities of remote work. I also had thoughts about it. I'm in my 50s and when I was younger I never really questioned the necessity of commuting. You get up then get dressed after that leave the house and get yourself to some place of employment because that's just the way it was. But nowadays you can simply stay in your room and save the commute both in terms of time and money it's not a bad thing. Sometimes we do not have to do the unnecessary daily grind.

And if you can take some of that pressure off yurself by working at home you should definitely do so. On the other hand I find it interesting how people will no longer have those chance encounters they used to at the office. The neighborhood aunty conversations, the odd jokes and the asking after one's family interactions that weren't really necessary but added some flavor to the working environment. That won't happen when someone works remotely and I do wish there was a way to preserve that. It's not like I have particularly fond memories of my own time in the office. trust me Sitting through traffic jams on my way to work was never my idea of a fulfilling social activity. But if the means exist to remove some of those annoyances then why not employ them?

For me, I think this trend is more interesting change for everyone. If people aren't going to be there in the first place then the infrastructure to support them isn't needed either. Offices can be smaller shops and restaurants can count on less foot traffic and the housing market can see some interesting changes as well. My question is why pay more for an apartment when I'll only be there twice a week? For most jobs that's just not sustainable. Also imagine, plumbers can't give relationship advice through Whatsapp and a nurse can't stitch up your knee's from behind a kitchen counter. As you can see someone still has to actually go out and do the work. So that's a complete different factor.

So I don't really think it's a matter of if but rather when society as a whole will accept these changes as inevitable. The office environment as we know it will die out and in its place will be something new. Some people will take to this new way of life and some won't and that's just the way it is. I'm of an age now where I can look back on my earlier life and realize that making everybody fit into the same mold rarely serves anybody well. Also, I think both options should be available so even a person with disability can work from home. I think life would be much easier if we don't rely on one sector and have options.

Because people have different problems and that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to earn and be independent. We should try to consider everyone's matter.
