Banana Fritters is most popularly known in Visayas and Mindanao in philippines as pinaypay. Each banana fritter is made using Saba bananas (sometimes known as Cardaba bananas) with 3 or 4 vertical slits. The partitions had to be spread to resemble a fan, hence the name "Pinaypay". The banana is then dipped in a batter and fried then coated with white sugar. I believe most of you had one of these as a snack either in your household or in your schools since Pinaypay is one of the most common way to cook bananas for merienda.
I remember, we used to buy this for 3 peso each, but today, Pinaypay is now sold for 5 pesos a piece. I know, I know, times have changed and prices have gone steep. But this doesn't stop us from buying a piece and eating it. And it also a crunchy if newly cooked. I invite you then that next time you purchase "saging na saba", try this Banana Fritters and enjoy an afternoon snack with your family.
