Visiting the Acoustic Shell at Guaiquerí Park is like experiencing an encounter with art, culture, and music. I love everything I find in this space, as the Sucre State Youth Symphony Orchestra is always rehearsing there. There, these enthusiastic and talented young people delight us with their instruments, and the sound carries throughout the space without the need for speakers.
Here, you can truly feel the intense passion for classical music and its various forms. I love seeing the dedication and discipline in these young people—qualities that are inherent to the creative process. When I look around, I can let my gaze rest on the surrounding nature, whose trees and wildlife also seem to enjoy this encounter with art.
In addition, I can approach the Concha Acústica from different angles, which is particularly interesting because the bleachers are arranged for enjoying musical events; however, the sound doesn’t travel the same way in all directions.
I’ve always loved music. When I was young, I would have liked to play the violin, although my initial inspiration didn’t come from classical music but from hearing the song Dust in the Wind by the band Kansas, which was playing at home. Later, I realized that my dreams were far from becoming a reality because of the cost of the instrument, so I switched to the guitar.
Later, I turned my attention to other things, but music and nature have always been a part of my life. Sitting here in the stands, I like to analyze the principles of acoustics—the resonance that occurs in an open space and the position in which each instrument should be placed so as not to cancel out the sound. That’s why the woodwinds and brass are in the back, percussion in the middle, strings further forward, and the voices at the front. If this arrangement were to change, the music would sound distorted.
