Hello Foodies

There are some recipes that don't need a long list of ingredients to make them special. Sometimes, a few simple ingredients, when cooked together with the right spices and a little patience, can create a dish that everyone at home enjoys.

Today I am sharing one such recipe with you — Minced Beef & Chana Dal. This is a simple, hearty and flavorful dish that we often enjoy with roti. You can also serve it with rice, but personally, I think the combination with fresh roti is something really special.

Ingredients

For this recipe, we need:
½ kg minced beef
Chana dal
Oil
1 onion
6–7 cloves of garlic
Ginger
2–3 green chilies
Salt
Red chili powder
Turmeric powder
Coriander powder
Cumin powder
Cinnamon powder
These are all the ingredients we need for this recipe.

Preparation

First, I will take a cooking pot and add some oil. Since I am using half a kilogram of minced beef, I am using one medium onion. I have finely chopped the onion and added it to the hot oil.

I will fry the onion until it becomes nicely golden brown. While the onion is frying, I have already washed and cleaned my chana dal thoroughly and soaked it in water for some time. Soaking the dal helps it become softer and cook more quickly.

Now let's continue with the cooking.

For the next step, I am taking around six to seven cloves of garlic. You can also add ginger according to your taste. I peeled the garlic properly and crushed it. In the same way, I also crushed the ginger.

Now you can see that my onion has started turning golden brown. At this point, I will add the crushed ginger and garlic to the pot. I will also finely chop two to three green chilies and add them to the same pot.

I will fry everything together until the raw smell disappears and the beautiful aroma of ginger, garlic and green chilies starts filling the kitchen.

Now it's time to add the spices. I will add red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and a little cinnamon powder. I will sauté all the spices together for a short time so that they release their flavor into the oil.
Once the spices are nicely mixed, I will add my ½ kg minced beef to the pot.

Now I will cook the minced beef properly, mixing it well with the masala. I will continue frying it until all the water released by the minced beef has completely dried up and the beef is nicely fried with the spices.Once the minced beef is properly fried, I will add the soaked chana dal that I prepared earlier. I will add the dal along with the water.

The amount of water is important here. We need enough water for the chana dal to become completely soft while cooking. I will give everything a good mix with a spoon and then close the pressure cooker.I will cook it for around 15 to 20 minutes, so that both the minced beef and chana dal become nicely tender and fully cooked.

After 15 to 20 minutes, when I open the cooker, you will see that everything is beautifully cooked. The chana dal becomes soft and blends perfectly with the minced beef and spices.

For garnishing, you can add some thin pieces of fresh ginger and sprinkle freshly chopped coriander on top. I actually remembered the garnishing after taking the pictures of my dish, so unfortunately, you won't see the garnish in my pictures. But I definitely recommend adding it because it makes the dish look even more appetizing.

You can enjoy this Minced Beef & Chana Dal with rice, but with fresh roti, the taste is absolutely wonderful. We also love eating this type of dish with fresh green onions, radish leaves and gandana on the side. These fresh vegetables add a lovely crunch and freshness to the meal, and for us, they make the whole experience even more delicious.

I hope you will try this simple and flavorful recipe at home. If you make it, I would love to know how you liked this combination of minced beef and chana dal.Thank you so much for reading my recipe. Until my next post, take care and keep cooking delicious food for your loved ones!
