Nigerian government and politics is a wide topic to talk about, it is because Nigerians practiced different type of political system and government.

The state was colonized by the British from 1914-1960 and governed through the indirect rule system ,with the help of traditional leaders.
In 1960, Nigeria gained their independence from the colonial master ,after the independence they adopted a system called the parliamentary system,where the prime minister is also the head of government and a ceremonial president.

In 1966-1979, there was a military coup led by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and other military officers,which led to overthrew of the civilian government and the military rule Nigeria till 1979.

In 1979 to 1983, the power was returned by to the civilians and the presidential elections conducted was won by Shehu Shagari, but his tenure was marked by corruption and political instability.
In 1983 to 1998, Muhammadu Buhari overthrew Shagari's government and this led to another military coup led by Muhammadu Buhari .

In 1993 elections,Moshood Abiola won the presidential election but was annulled by Ibrahim Babangida ,that is why we are celebrating June 12 as our new Democracy day in Nigeria presently to honor Moshood Abiola.

In 1998 to 1999, General Abdulsalami Abubakar made a transition to civilian rule , which led to the establishment of the 1999 Constitution.

The 1999 constitution have many features and key component; there is different branches and tiers of government,we have executive, legislative and the judiciary. The tiers ,we have local government, state government and the federal government.

In 2011 to 2015 , Goodluck Jonathan was Nigeria democractic presidential (PDP)his government was territorize by the Boko Haram,but he was as good president during his time .

In 2015 to 2023 , Muhammadu Buhari was the president(APC)he used two tenure on the presidential sit during his time ,there is cashless policy and herdsmen crises.

2023 till date , Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the president of Nigeria,he remove subsidy he is an APC member.

We have administrative division also , Nigeria is divided into 36 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) Abuja.
We have six geo- political zones and each state has an elected governor and a house of assembly.

In Nigeria presently practice Democracy system of government,where people vote and choose their representative. And there are numerous political groups like APC, PDP, LP, NPC and many more .
