Our confession will either imprison us or set us free. Our confession is the result of our believing, and our believing is the result of our right or wrong thinking.
— Kenneth E. Hagin
How long should we go when confessing, that’s a dilemma I have seen many suffocated with. To some extent, it feels good to confess our sins, I guess. But not to everyone. Not everybody we come across knows what’s going on in our minds. Yet, we make mistakes by opening ourselves to those inappropriate persons; either convinced by their sweet talk or there is none else to share with.
Personally, I know a few, around 4/5, both male and female, who regret confessing their actions. They did it with a noble cause, to clear themselves of the suffocation they felt within and to amend themselves of the wrong they did.
But it backfired.
The persons they made the confession used the agenda to exploit them, to insult them whenever they wished to. But they were the most cared person, they were the most trustworthy— they changed their attitude knowing the truth. Sometimes, it went violent, sometimes as a form of mental torture— bringing out the secret and using them as the deadliest weapons at their worst time.
This makes me wonder if can we really trust the people around us, with our secrets. If not, then it's decided. But if yes, to what extent?
Being a loyal friend to many, literally many, I hold secrets of some of them. Some even shared many disturbing events they were a part of, events that they are hesitant to disclose to anyone, including me. But somehow they did. And they felt good sharing them, felt like a heavy stone was removed from their chests. I also enjoyed listening to them— secrets; they are sizzling sauces that can make your mouth watery anytime you want.
Listening to secrets and promising to keep them safe is a great responsibility. Sometimes it comes with consequences. To hold secrets in the safest chambers of your memory, you need to be strong. A person with a strong will and a clear conscience. Since we cannot guarantee whether friendship will last during the course of life, it is a great risk to reveal secrets to others; regardless of their relationships.
Fortunately, the secrets I have kept safe with me, and the persons who shared them with me are still dear to me. Although away from them for a long time, we still have respect for each other. They trust me like I do them. As said before, if this deadly weapon is unleashed, lives will turn upside down, ruining many associated with it— I really wish they die with me.
But one thing I believe, if you are to share secrets, share it with strangers— maybe with a random person you met at a bar or some friends that you are confident won’t be in touch after a certain period or cannot reach any of your family or relatives. Or, do not share anything at all; with none. This is what I do and I can sleep peacefully at night knowing that everything I did, they are safe with me. Only He knows and I trust Him until the day of resurrection.
