Today we are on day 37 of lock down here in South Africa, and what a beautiful day it is too! However, I am actually from England but since all the travel restrictions my stay here has been extended. I figured I would share some photos from back home since all my previous posts have all pretty much been about South Africa... shame 😉 Haha!
I woke up this morning thinking back to a beautiful day spent in Colchester Castle Park near to where I live. It is located in Britains oldest recorded town of Colchester, which is located in the Essex County in the South East of England. I remember it being a warm day with a slight breeze, just enough to get the leaves moving, and allow the sun to dance through the gaps in the trees in perfect harmony. (I especially love being by the sea)- watching the sun reflecting on the water, glistening like diamonds, I find mother nature captivating that way.
Within Castle Park is Colchester Castle, a Norman Castle dating from the second half of the eleventh Century. The castle and its grounds is rich in history, it makes for a great day out and is located in a prime spot as there's always something happening, from live music events, food festivals, open air cinema, and much more. Not to mention a great opportunity to snap up some pics! Moments=memories!
Built on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius, Colchester Castle is the largest Norman keep in Europe. Now a museum, it showcases the history of Colchester from Celtic Kings, through Roman invasion and Boudiccan revolt, to Norman conquest and medieval life. Its Civil War story and terrible link to Witchfinder General, Matthew Hopkins can also be explored in the surviving prisons.
Oh how I love the sound of crunching leaves under my boot, a real earthly feeling.
I walked quite a distance, admiring the scenery, listening to the birds and even spotted a deer. There are various trails within the country park that lead to different parts of the town with picnic spots throughout. It is nice to be away from all the 'busyness' and so makes for a lovely walk if what you need is some piece and quiet, after all, being surrounded by nature and all its sweet sounds is the perfect way to replenish the soul.
