One more way to discover Hue City is cycling. Because Hue is not a busy city so we can find some escape corner where we can enjoy fresh air in the morning. I am not a professional cyclist, therefore I do not ride too hard and too far. There are many sightseeing places where we can see on the riding way.
I and my friend often start pretty early in the morning, about 5 a.m and we will spend about 2 hours to cycle around Hue before work.
It is so good to breathe fresh air in the early morning and chat with a friend on the way. For the fun ride, we can ride to Vong Canh Hill, where we stop to drink water and look over the Perfume river. From this view, you can see that the opposite hills looks like a turtle. The turtle head is also located by an old Hon Chen temple which were built under the reign of Champa kingdom, the owner of the land until 1471.
Sometimes we prepare the route in advance, but sometimes we just grab the bikes and go. As a result, we went and found out that we were in a dead-end or we did not know where we were.
I got lost!
However, we used google map to find out. Although there were no route on the map but we could know which direction to go and the trail might lead us to. And a surprise, we rode to an abandoned water park.
This water park is on Thuy Tien lake so it got this name as well. It was built in 2004 but abandoned 10 years ago. It is now a creepy place for Halloween photo shots.
We parked our bikes and walked inside the dragon. We could see trees and broken aquarium in this. There are lots of graffiti on the wall as well as broken plaster and glass on the floor. We were very careful to climb up the dragon mouth. It looks over the Thuy Tien lake with a lovely view.
There are also abandoned slides and dancing fountain which are now home of fishes. They are on the left to the dragon mouth. There is a main gate to get in, not from the back like us did. Therefore you can go in via main gate after giving a guard $2 for permission because it is a private property. The guard can have his early coffee with little $2. Win-win!
In the rainy season in Hue, we do not cycle much but when the sun comes back, we will grab our bikes to discover the suburb of Hue with royal tombs...
