Behind that need to like everyone,
there's a little boy who was rejected.
Behind that anger and rage that always comes out,
there's a child that's been abandoned.
Behind that superiority, that arrogance,
there's a child who didn't feel loved.
Behind the demand on yourself and others,
there's a little boy who didn't feel loved.
Behind that lonely, hermit human being,
there's a little boy who was excluded.
Behind the pain, the tears,
there's a child who's been hurt.
Within each one of us, there is a child who stores all the difficult moments that marked us, the phrases that were recorded, the demands that burdened us, those needs that were not met, as well as the love we received, the affection, the attention, the games and the memories treasured in our hearts.
And even though we have grown up, we have changed, and even though perhaps the people in our childhood environment are not present now, the emotions are still there, asleep, and just one word, a characteristic tone of voice, is enough to awaken those feelings, both good and bad.
The inner child is the master of our emotions and behaviour and is always in the shadow of our unconscious, so we hardly ever realise it. When those emotions were negative and were not healed at the time, they tend to cause us harm in our adulthood. That is why it is so important to create a connection, so that we can repair that past that appears from time to time to torment us.
In short, our inner child is our true self, our wounded self.
Many live for years seeking the love, approval and respect of other people. The inner child seeks outside what he always needed to receive during his childhood: loving treatment from the adults around him who were responsible for feeding and educating him to strengthen his physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual growth.
One of the most powerful tools of psychotherapy is called Constellation and can be done in a group or individually. Through it, you can travel to your childhood and see how you were, how your environment was, your toys, your parents. The closer that journey to your past is to reality, the more effective the healing process will be.
It is necessary to relive the pain of those moments, to get in touch with them and although the process is very strong, it is indispensable to continue until the end; to face those feelings face to face, because that rage, that rancor, that stress, that pain that you can experience in your present, many times without apparent reason and that has come to isolate you and makes you feel depression, the only way to heal, is facing them.
One of the most effective ways is to treat that inner child, as you would have liked to be treated, play with him, hug him and tell him that from now on everything will be fine; later, at the end of the therapy, with the help of your psychotherapist, you will analyze together what you saw, what you felt and how you can face it.
Once you have been able to heal those wounds, you will only have an internal scar as a reminder of what happened to you, but it won't hurt anymore.
