Hello everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! It is a pleasure to be back here sharing a new space for reflection with you. Sometimes everyday life rushes by so fast that we need to take a mandatory pause, look inward, and ask ourselves what truly matters. This week, the contest initiatives invite us to embark on that beautiful exercise: revisiting the footprints of the past and rethinking the value of things. I share my answers with you with an open heart.
If we could step back in time and develop the film rolls from old-school cameras, those physical negatives kept in dusty albums, the story they would tell would be a heartwarming journey through the soul. It wouldn't be about perfect or planned pictures, but about pure moments captured forever.
Anyone flipping through those albums would discover a woman shaped by deep love, family, and resilience. They would see loving parents and a forever-united home: my father with infinite patience untangling my hair to make me two little ponytails, and my mother happily dancing with the broom while cleaning the house. They would find the laughter of my childhood alongside my brother, giving me piggyback rides on the sidewalk from one corner to the other, as if the entire world were ours.
The roll would also reveal the stages of growth: school friends, high school years, university parties, and those magical sunrises at the beach shared with my youth tribe. It would show the trips, like the one to Finland and Spain, hand in hand with the love of my life, professional achievements and promotions, and my wedding day.
Yet the roll of film wouldn't shy away from the turning points: the difficult birth of my son, my fear and anguish at the thought of losing him, the pain of my divorce, the sorrowful passing of my mother, and the silences of solitude that sometimes consume me. Ultimately, it would be the sincere X-ray of a life lived with intensity, with its lights and shadows, where every photo tells a story that is now part of who I am.
It is not about judging those who choose to invest their money in designer clothes or highly exclusive dining experiences, but personally, I consider that type of luxury to be overrated. Sometimes I feel that the need to display brands, expensive objects, or an ostentatious lifestyle responds more to the desire for external validation than to the genuine enjoyment of what one possesses.
Paying a fortune for a garment, such as those designs from brands like Balenciaga that sell trash bags as purses or clothes that look dirty and torn at absurd prices, or for a tiny portion of food, solely for the exclusivity it represents, is not something that appeals to me or feels necessary. For me, the value of things should not depend on a label, but on what they truly bring to our lives.
If I were fortunate enough to have all the money in the world, my priorities would be much more practical and meaningful. I would invest it in renovating my home: fixing the leaks once and for all, changing the floors, modernizing the kitchen, and turning our house into a more comfortable, warm, and functional space for my son and me.
I would also travel, because I love getting to know new places, immersing myself in other cultures, and broadening my perspective of the world. But I would do it without pretentious luxuries or red-carpet hotels. For me, true luxury is living with peace of mind, having an organized home, and keeping the freedom to continue collecting worlds through travel.
Thank you for reading along and sharing this moment of reflection with me. Writing these lines has felt like opening a small window to the past and the heart, reminding me of what truly matters. I wish you all a wonderful week and look forward to reading your thoughts in the comments. A big hug to everyone!
