What is one luxury that you completely overrated.
What's something you wouldn't spend your money on even if you could afford it and why?
Growing up I thought a washing machine was one of the clearest sign that someone had made it in life and I know luxury is relative, what luxury is to you may not be luxury to me our definition may be different depending on where we come from, what experience and what we have been exposed to for me one of those things was a washing machine
I said that because I did an house girl job in port Harcourt that made me mentally drained, just imagine a rich woman house someone who has five house in Nigeria and travel around the world
I mean that woman had money but didn't have a washing machine so i became the gateman, a cook, a cleaner, a care giver ( taking care of the late mom, a teacher ( the grand daughter whose parents stays in UK ) i mean I take her to school by trekking because they needed her to exercise which wasn't bad for the girl but which increases my work load and moreover I'll go pick her after close of work and guess what i became the washing machine.
Don't worry stay with me on this luxury stuff, I was like I don't know what to call myself even everyone's undies yes, so my thoughts of washing machine while growing up which was for the rich to make work easier and life more comfortable was smashed so I saw washing machine as something people hyped that didn't make sense so one day when I left that place I came back home
now my foster parents which I was now with had a washing but my perception about it changed, you mean someone will put dresses in there and for hour's the cloth was not done washing you will say it setting or the made I can agree with you but my experience made me see it in another light that I don't really count it and the last part is the funniest.
In my previous post on ladies of hive I had mentioned that I had accident and that accident affected my spine though I'm getting well by the day I can walk on my own now but I can't do some domestic activities only for me to find out that the washing machine doesn't wash all kinds of clothes and there are cloth you put in there to wash and they may come out not being clean as expected and this has been a major concern to me.
this is my personal experience I don't know for other or maybe there's a better machine out there that I'm not aware of some at the end of the day I still wash in the machine but are selected clothes and my mom will have to assist in the once I can't wash because I'm not supposed to bend for long because of my health .
So the experience made me realise something, sometimes what we call luxury is simply a tool that makes life easier but whether it is worth it depends on the person using it, so yes I probably overrated the washing machine while growing up.
What's something you wouldn't spend your money on even if you could afford it and why?
For me that would currently be an air conditioner in my personal space, my reason is personal
hold on you are already wondering why, so three years ago when I had that accident my body system changed completely, I was diagnosed of pneumonia and it persistent till now that I can't even stay in and air conditioned car I will just vomit and I'll start shaking and I was told recently that it allergies and I'm completely surprised
I mean I rarely drink room temperature water I have a flask that I drink semi hot water bottle that's why I can't spend my money on it even if I do, it won't be for my personal use not in my personal space except as I trust the Lord for healing if He heals me that can be adjusted so perhaps this luxury is situational.
probably that's the biggest lesson for me, so luxury isn't always about what you can afford, it about what actually add value to your life.
Something can be expensive, comfortable and highly desirable to someone else yet completely unnecessary or uncomfortable for you.
