One luxury I genuinely struggle to understand is luxury bottled water. I find it even funny to be honest, I mean I understand that water is essential, and I also understand that there are differences in quality, when it comes to purity but when you start paying an absurd amount of money simply because the water comes in a fancy bottle or has some prestigious name attached to it, I honestly start wondering what exactly we are buying.
I mean, it is water, you drink it, your body uses what it needs, you swallow it and within a few minutes the experience is basically over. Unlike a car or even a piece of clothing, there is almost nothing tangible left after the experience and yet there are bottles of water that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I still find it difficult to understand how they can justify an extreme price.
I think bottled water is probably one of the clearest examples of how luxury works. Once something becomes associated with wealth and exclusivity, people are no longer simply paying for the product. They are paying for the ability to say that they had it.
Another luxury I find fascinating is the extremely expensive watch and before anyone comes for me, I understand that watches can be beautiful pieces of engineering. I can appreciate the craftsmanship, the mechanical complexity, the history behind certain brands and the amount of work that can go into producing a high-end timepiece.
But sometimes I look at the prices and think... “this thing still tells the same time as my phone”.Lol, Obviously, I know that nobody buying an extremely expensive watch is simply paying for the ability to know whether it is 2:30 or 2:45. At that level, you're buying craftsmanship and reputation, a person wearing a very expensive watch doesn't have to tell you they are wealthy. The watch can do that for them and that is probably part of what makes luxury watches so appealing to those that buy them at extreme prices. You can walk into a room wearing something worth tens of thousands of dollars and most people won't even notice but someone who knows watches will immediately recognise what you're wearing.
It almost becomes a secret language between people who understand the value of the object
I don't think expensive watches are pointless, in short in rate them but I just think they are ovrerrated, I saw some time back how mayweather spent about 10 million dollars ona watch , like what!!!!!!!!!!!!
