I've been wanting to throw this backpack away for a long time, but since I used it to store a few things, I hadn't done it. This bag was given to me as a gift a few years ago and I used it a lot during my volunteer days in the countryside. To go there I just put in it my food, water and anything else I needed. That time and rural place were very nice where I lived equally nice experiences 💞
Having a backpack is very practical if you travel by bus (as in my case), if you will be away from home all day, visiting a friend or on an excursion because you can carry everything you need, the weight goes on your shoulders, on your back, and that makes the trip more comfortable and lighter.
These days I felt the need to use a bag and that's when I thought that, while the backpack I want so much arrives 😃, I can reuse this one I already have, but I wanted to reinforce it and see if I could somehow fix it to give it a little more use and time.
How did I do it? 🌟
I started taking a look at it to see what it needed. For example, it needed a lining. So I took one of my husband's shirts that I was going to throw away 🙈, cut off the sleeves, attached it at the armhole, detached the buttons and also sewed that part so it would look like a pouch. Then, I glued it to the inside of the bag all around the edge and joined the sides. That's how the lining was ready.
The front and back needed a fabric reinforcement. For that I used the fabric from a pillowcase that I'm using right now for various projects and made two long strips (double) to cover the front and back of the bag.
I peeled off the handles and sewed them back together so that they would be strong enough to hold if I have to put some weight on it.
The zippers are in perfect condition, they open and close well, so I don't need to do any work on them or change them. Finally, I made this bow to make it look even nicer.
Although I'm still on my task of taking out what I don't use and throw away or donate, I'm glad I've changed my mind for now with my bag and I can reuse it with just a few small repairs 😻 It's amazing the change it made with them.
Now, I will be able to put the things I need in it, it adapts to my needs and doesn't alter my minimalist principles. What do you think about how it turned out?
Happy #WasteLessWednesday my dear friends 💜
