Hablando de Rumba el otro día, en un post del amigo @rumbapoet recordé que el fin de semana pasado, se presentó en nuestro proyecto comunitario de la calle Prado, un profesor de danza, para realizar una clase gigante de Rumba con niños de escuelas cercanas.

Yo la verdad no soy un experto en la materia, pero me parece muy interesante este baile y a que cubano no se le mueven un poco lo pies, cuando suena el tambor, es imposible permanecer inmune a su ritmo tan seductor.

Por cierto quédense hasta el final del post que hay una sorpresita 🤫😏

Volviendo a la clase, al principio me pareció todo algo caótico y no me imaginaba como haría este señor para lograr explicarles a todos esos muchachos, ya yo he sido profesor de arte, en mi momento, pero es algo muy diferente en la calle y con gran cantidad de estudiantes. Pues les cuento que fue muy eficiente en lograrlo.

Música sonando y el profe detrás del micrófono le fue exponiendo cada movimiento básico del baile de manera separada, con la cintura, con los pies y con las manos. Cada parte del cuerpo se mueve de una forma y después se combinan como un todo para formar la rumba.

Los muchachos iban replicando cada acción a la par de su maestro, siguiendo al pie de la letra su excelente demostración. Luego en fila fueron realizando ellos los mismos movimientos, pero esta vez caminado, porque en este baile es preciso desplazarse en el espacio o escenario.

Cuando ya habían pasado todos los chicos, el experto hizo una demostración de la danza en pareja, para que se pudiera entender como son los roles del hombre y la mujer durante la danza, para terminar en el último acto con los estudiantes bailando, por turnos y haciendo alarde de su destreza y talento. Se puede notar con solo verlos, que en su sangre llevan toda esa rica esencia de tradiciones culturales, que conforman el ADN cubano, me encantó verlos disfrutar y aprender, espero verlos brillar en los escenarios de los bailes populares, continuando ese legado de costumbres que conforman la identidad nacional.

Going back to the class, at the beginning it all seemed a bit chaotic and I could not imagine how this gentleman would manage to explain to all those kids, I have been an art teacher in my time, but it is something very different in the street and with a large number of students. Well, I can tell you that he was very efficient in achieving it.

Music played and the teacher behind the microphone explained each basic movement of the dance separately, with the waist, with the feet and with the hands. Each part of the body moves in one way and then they are combined as a whole to form the rumba.

The boys were replicating each action at the same time as their teacher, following his excellent demonstration step by step. Then in line they performed the same movements, but this time walking, because in this dance it is necessary to move around the space or stage.

When all the children had already passed, the expert made a demonstration of the dance in pairs, so that the roles of the man and the woman during the dance could be understood, to finish with the students dancing, taking turns and showing off their skill and talent. You can tell just by watching them, that in their blood they carry all that rich essence of cultural traditions that make up the Cuban DNA, I loved watching them enjoy and learn, I hope to see them shine on the stages of popular dances, continuing the legacy of customs that make up the national identity.
