Hello HIVE, I hope you are all doing well and doing some creative activity.
Hola HIVE espero que todos se encuentren muy bien haciendo alguna actividad creativa.
Today, at the University of Arts I helped a friend with an installation of his final semester project. He, like me, studies plastic arts with a major in MIXED MEDIA, a career that allows us to delve into the exploration of traditional media (drawing, painting, sculpture, graphics, among others) and new means of artistic expression such as video art, performance (in all its possible variants), the assembly and installation of pieces that transcend the sculptural and turn out to be works that blend with the environment where they are installed and end up becoming part of the unit; Aaron (that's the name of the friend who helped) came up with an intervention in which he would use several common objects to generate a slightly nostalgic scene, since the objects were an old telephone and a typewriter, we installed them in the university cafeteria which is located outside the main building, we saw a good pole where we thought the installation would be very well positioned since many students pass through that space and the objective of the work is to generate interaction with the viewer, we hung the telephone high and the typewriter we installed at a comfortable height for use, we made several technical repairs to the machine so that it would work correctly and allow the public to write whatever they want on the sheets that we left on one side of the work, apart from the installation has a sound accompaniment that is a constant humming tone that generates a kind of retro atmosphere that immerses the viewer in a very nostalgic scene bringing to mind many sensations and memories of the past (well that's what it generated for me, but all viewers will have their own interpretation.
Later, little by little, several students came closer to interact with the installation and leave their thoughts captured on the sheets that we left there, which will later serve as a record when they evaluate Aaron's delivery. I loved this experience of making an installation. It's the first one I've done and it wasn't my idea, I was just helping with the creation, but I know that soon I will create my own artistic installations; I hope you like this post, good vibes.
