Dear friends, wishing you all a very wonderful day! How are you all doing? Today is a rainy day here, so I prepared a delicious recipe for the day. Kurakkan Halapa is a traditional Sri Lankan sweet made with nutritious finger millet flour and a few simple, wholesome ingredients. Its soft texture, natural aroma, and delightful taste make it a wonderful choice for breakfast, afternoon tea, or as a special homemade treat. This traditional dish brings back cherished memories of simple and nutritious foods enjoyed by generations.
So, let’s see how we can prepare it. 🌧️🌿🥥
150 g kurakkan (finger millet) flour
50 g wheat flour
A little lukewarm water
¼ teaspoon salt
A prepared sugar and coconut caramel mixture
About 10 pieces of kanda leaves, lightly greased with oil
Now, let’s get ready to prepare the kurakkan halapa. First, take a bowl and add the kurakkan flour, wheat flour, and a little salt. Mix everything well. Then gradually add lukewarm water and knead until you form a soft dough.
Next, divide the dough into small portions. Place each dough ball on a kanda leaf as shown below, and gently flatten it into a thin layer that follows the shape of the leaf.
Now, add a small amount of the prepared sugar and coconut caramel mixture over each flattened halapa, as shown below. Then fold the leaf in half, gently pressing the halapa into the shape of the leaf.
Now, place the prepared halapa parcels in a steamer and steam them for about 20 minutes. Once they are cooked, carefully remove them from the steamer.
Kurakkan Halapa is a delicious traditional Sri Lankan treat that allows you to enjoy the goodness of finger millet while experiencing the authentic flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine. Soft, flavorful, and satisfying, it is perfect to enjoy with a warm cup of tea and to share with family and loved ones. This wholesome homemade treat brings together both nourishment and happiness, making it a wonderful addition to any occasion.
That’s all for today. I’ll say goodbye for now. Wishing all of you a wonderful and blessed day!
