Hello everyone 👋,
Happy hump day 😎happy new year🎉 and a very warm welcome to my world 😊. It's the first Wednesday of 2024. Another wonderful and active day is fading away fast. Before bedtime 😴 let's quickly take a look at how my day has been and share some of the trending stories. Thank you for stopping by and lets dive in 💨.
I kicked off the day with a few rounds of brisk walking around the neighbourhood. It was a drizzly morning as I made my way. A short walk that I enjoyed and then I was back indoors thirty minutes later. I then rested for a while, caught up with emails, watched the news and then the usual chores around the house.
My next stepping came later in the afternoon going to the city centre for some errands. A beautiful sunny 🌞 day had emerged as I made my way. It was nap time when I got back indoors, I woke up some time early evening and got on with the cooking, watching a little bit of news and youtube, checking out other hive posts.
Next came the evening or sunset walk, it looked like it would rain but it didn't and I made it back home safe and sound. Now let's quickly look at what has been trending in the news today.
Locally, the usual political shenanigans kept going😹, today the head of Sudan's RSF made a stop in Nairobi meeting Kenyan president. The RSF and Sudanese army have been fighting for close to nine months. They really need to use diplomacy to stop that fighting💯.
Globally, Gaza still trending as heavy bombardment kept going in the southern city of Rafa and central Gaza too🙀. The death toll has now hit 22,300😭.
Also trending, Iran says two blasts near the grave of Soleimani has killed 103 people and injured a further 170😭. The twin blasts occured during an event marking the fourth anniversary of Soleimani's death. He was killed by US drone attack in 2020. No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
In Lebanon, the head of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah has said yesterday's killing of Hamas deputy leader in Beirut will not go unpunished🙀.
Israel have not admitted to that drone strike but had earlier said all Hamas leaders were targets.
Across the pond, US state department says Washington was not given advance warning of the strike in Beirut. Adding that it's incredibly concerned about the risk of the conflict spreading.
Also trending, the US and 11 other countries have issued a statement calling for houthis to end attacks in the Red Sea. The joint statement says houthis will face consequences for attacking shipping vessels.
Finally, Ukraine and Russia have exchanged hundreds of prisoners of war in a deal brokered by the UAE🎉🎊. Over 200 on each side, nice new year gesture even as the war rages.
