Good day, and a very good day to all you dear Hivers of the Hive.

It is a pleasure to have you stop by and read my post.

This time, I would like to share a text I wrote a couple of years ago. I think I had grown a little by then—just a little. How time passes, doesn’t it? Life’s fleeting instant is like a train moving at tremendous speed, gathering more momentum with every passing day.

Well, that being so, here is the text. I am deeply grateful to all those people who support creation in this magnificent place of respect and hard work we call Hive.

A fraternal embrace,
Have a wonderful day or night, wherever you may be.

THE CLAY I HOLD IN MY HAND

“The past is clay that the present
shapes at will. Endlessly.”
—J. L. Borges, at the close of his final book, Los conjurados (1985).

Unable to follow the path of the victor,
I choose instead to work upon my own footsteps.

The clay I hold in my hand
is the clay of people and struggle,
is the word of a pregnant woman, held still
upon the weariness that was me, filled with joy.

The clay that remembers and piles itself
upon the new clouds it consumes,
the becoming of time founded upon atoms,
upon the geography of the open courtyard.

They say matter changes and branches out,
and into seven matters it is distilled.
Keep from me, my God, those clouds
where good judgment is sacrificed or put on trial.

Keep from me the blunt edge and the skill
that would sharpen the devouring knife,
whether it strikes at its mortal end
or passes me by in the midst of the dreadful blow.

Keep me from escaping through cunning,
mud-covered by the strides of mortals.
I want green grass beneath my steps,
not a desolate Borgesian fate.

Keep from me the frankness that hides
within the haste of a cornered, wicked being;
make me a stone, if I must be,
so that a stumble may not alter the substance,
nor pride rise to my throat,

when, alive, I draw from the clay

the worldly desires and the pure ones—

together, they shall be my joy

and my future.
