Honestly, I knew absolutely nothing about this show. I thought it would be the typical cowboy story— horses and staring into the sunset—but not at all. I started watching it because of the hype and because Kevin Costner is in it, but I ended up hooked because of how twisted this family is. They’re like the Murdaughs, but with 100 times the budget and zero scruples.
Kevin Costner plays John Dutton and, sincerely, he is a despicable guy. He’s the typical patriarch who thinks owning half of Montana gives him the right to be judge, jury, and executioner. He’s arrogant, manipulative, and keeps his children in a state of constant trauma just to "protect the legacy." The guy doesn’t love anyone; he only loves his land.
What impressed me most was seeing how these people operate. They think they’re kings in a town where nobody dares to cough in their direction because they’re the ones with the money and the connections:
"In that house, you don't eat dinner; you negotiate betrayals. If you aren't useful to the ranch, you aren't family."
The show is slow at times and occasionally over-dramatic, but visually, it’s a masterpiece. It’s completely immersive. I watched it because I wanted to see how it ended, and I finished it hating every single one of them—which says a lot about how good the performances are.
La verdad, no sabía absolutamente nada de esta serie. Pensé que sería la típica historia de vaqueros montando a caballo y mirando al atardecer, pero qué va. Me puse a verla por la fama que tiene y porque sale Kevin Costner, pero terminé enganchado por lo retorcida que es esta familia. Son como los Murdaugh, pero con 100 veces más presupuesto y cero escrúpulos.
Kevin Costner hace de John Dutton y, sinceramente, es un tipo despreciable. Es el típico patriarca que cree que ser dueño de media Montana le da derecho a ser el juez, el jurado y el verdugo. Es arrogante, manipulador y tiene a sus hijos viviendo en un trauma constante solo para "proteger el legado". El tipo no quiere a nadie, solo quiere su tierra.
Lo que más me impresionó fue ver cómo funciona esta gente. Se creen reyes en un pueblo donde nadie se atreve a toserles porque son los que tienen el dinero y los contactos:
"En esa casa no se cena, se negocian traiciones. Si no eres útil para el rancho, no eres de la familia."
La serie es lenta a ratos y a veces se pasan de dramáticos, pero visualmente es una joya. Te hace sentir inmersión. La vi porque quería saber cómo terminaba y terminé odiándolos a todos, lo cual dice mucho de lo buenas que son las actuaciones.
No es una obra maestra, pero si te gustan las historias de gente poderosa que se cree por encima de la ley mientras su vida personal es una basura, dale una oportunidad. Eso sí, prepárate para querer darle un bofetón a casi todos los personajes.
