Welcome to my blog, and happy new participation in the Hivelearners featured contest. Another week to talk, learn, and give an encapsulation of this matter on the ground.
Punishment deters some people from committing a crime because they don't want to be a victim or lose their lives in the process of the crime punishment. Some people would dare to commit a crime and say let anything that will happen, happen. Meaning they have prepared their minds to receive any punishment they want to receive as long as life is useless to them. They no longer value life and the punishment.
Some are involved in this criminal activity because they have what it takes to keep them going in life. Some will go with harmful weapons to kill and get what they want as their defense mechanism, which is not proper in our society.
Today, we see and hear how criminals kill people with weapons and get money or anything from the owner, and they are doing this to escape from the punishment meant for them, not knowing there is another punishment even if it is not physical. It is so devastating how criminals are painting our society as a scary place to be. You can't move freely, you can't board a tricycle freely; they are in every nook and cranny of the world. Even when they are punished and killed for the damage, others won't learn and repent. A new set of criminals will be evolving every week with new strategies of stealing and committing crimes, which makes some authorities scared and withdrawn.
I was living in a student environment. One day, two criminals came around the students' houses, entering house to house to get their gadgets. The landlord was quiet when they entered. He stood up and went against them. One escaped, and the one was caught by him, and he took time to deal with the criminal. Other boys in the compound stood up and dealt with this criminal. They poured him fuel and set him ablaze on the tarred road, while on my way to school early on the morning I saw the ashes of the body on the ground. This is to teach criminals a lesson that stealing can kill them as well. Some of them ended up in life prison and some were hanged to death. In the scenario, criminals don't learn their lessons.
There are jobs, let them go and learn handwork, but nowhere. They want to steal, destroy, and kill other lives. God is watching them but they don't know.
I think the government should implement other measures to punish them severely. So they won't repeat themselves again.
