Since travelling nowadays seems more like a nightmare than a pleasure, this week's contest from @travelcontest gave me a good reason to remember my last big vacations, where travelling meant a ton of great memories. You can see the original contest post here!
This week's theme is Transport. There are countless ways to travel, but riding a train is one of my favourites. And in Sri Lanka, there's an awesome trail, especially the part from a small mountain village called Ella, to Kandy town.
Riding it is a highlight of vacations in the country. The train rides slowly, it reminds me the old trains in Portugal; and everyone enjoys the riding taking photos and admiring the landscape.
Luxurious forest, coffee fields, green everywhere: my kind of place. And the slow pace to enjoy the show!
The locomotive even sends the iconic column of smoke up the air; to bad the photo wasn't the best, but it was the possible one, being on the train. I feel lucky enough to have witnessed the moment!
Apart from the stations, there's hardly any urban landscape during the whole train ride, which for me is an added bonus. And although not on this part of the track, can't help but to share one of the most beautiful bridges I've seen, just a couple of km off Ella, where the train passes: the famous nine arch bridge!
Have a great week everyone!
