Another prompt for this week's challenge, and this time, is one I feel doesn't appear that often (or maybe rng hasn't been choosing me?):

Yep, only cards with even mana can be used. This limits our options quite a bit, especially since my gameplay style definitely favours odd cards: for instance, most of the tanks I use tend to have odd mana, and a good part of my bigger damage dealers too. Good thing is, with so many cards, there's a good number of strategies for any ruleset. Baakjira, for instance, is a tank that immediatly pops to my mind in this ruleset; Chain Golem is another one.

I was finding hard to find a battle to showcase in time, since I don't like to delay these posts; but fortunately, a fun battle appeared in the last hour. Not only that, it was one of the cool battles to share! So, without further ado...

Water VS Water

Two more rulesets in this battle: all monsters have cripple ability, and no magic attack monsters can be used. Water splinter fitted perfect in these rulesets, and I was unsure until halfway wether I should go for Kelya or Possibilus. Chose the latter, since the lack of magic attack could open some possibilites for using monsters with shield/lots of armor, and take advantage of the trample and reach given by the summoner, at the expense of the extra speed and armor with Kelya.

My strategy and lineup:

  • Possibilus as the summoner: more hp, and the forementioned skills would come in handy here
  • Diemonshark as tank: fast, good armor, and retaliate would come in handy, since I was expecting more melee attacks here
  • Dumacke Orc: one of the soulbound card useful here: low hp wouldn't be much of a problem here (unless poison hitted), and thorns and retaliate would be perfect it it was targeted by melee opportunity cards.
  • Deeplurker: melee mosnter with opportunity and poison, perfect to use with this summoner since every kill triggers trample.
  • Runi: damage dealer, same reasoning as deeplurker; speed was an issue, but true strike makes up for it
  • Merdhampir: good ranged attack , perfect to suck some HP as well.
  • Furious chicken: cannon fodder... or maybe not?? (you'll see why in a bit!)

My opponent went for Kelya, and opted for a strong backline of damage dealers (deeplurker, merdhampir and azmare harpoonist), and unless I had opportunity or sneak, passing by the first three cards would be a hard task, since kelp and baakjira were behind diemonshark. I must confess, when I saw the lineup, I knew my chances were slim.

At the end of round one, my runi finishes the enemy deeplurker, fortunately before he inflicted poison on any of my cards, and trampled merdhampir armor as well.

Battle went on, and at the end of round two, after having lost my diemonshark already, I finally kill the enemy tank, trampling the offtank as well; still a balanced battle so far, but with only 1 hp and 1 armor, I was realy close to losing my offtank as well.

And as I lost deeplurker and runi at the end of round 6, I thought I was done for; although baakjira had poison, the heal should be enough to hold on. But there was still merdhampir's attack to be triggerd that round, and runi's ressurect, so a little bit of hope. And we get to...

A dead runi, my damage dealer in the frontline unable to attack, and still an harpoonist with 4 damage on the opponent's team! That's when I recalled that my little golden chicken has trample!!! ANd merdhampier soaked enough hp to last a few rounds so...

...when the battle seemed lost... chicken saved the day! Pecking its way to one of the funniest (and luckiest) battles in the last days! You can see the whole battle here!

Have no ideia how were my winning chances in this battle, but no doubt lady luck played a big role here; well, part of the game, isn't it?

Good luck on tomorrow's season rewards!
