Another season ended, and made it to Gold II after crawling my way back from bronze league. Amazing how even in bronze league I encountered near maxed decks; although a lot of players seem to enjoy this new system without league limitations, I have a really hard time understanding how a newbie player can have fun facing these kind of decks. Maybe I'm missing something?

But hey, back for another challenge! And this week we have...

In this ruleset, all melee cards gain the reach ability, meaning they can attack from the second position. This is an awesome ability, and gives us the chance to have pretty nice strategies using melee cards that wouldn't be that great for a tank position, but do wonders attacking from a second position.

Not all cards have reach, but fortunately, you can use this skill in some cases even when the card doesn't have it: as a ruleset is clearly one of those cases; or... you can do what I did in this battle!

My strategy and lineup:

  • Possibilus the Wise as the summoner: all cards have the reach ability! Problem solved!
  • Diemonshark as tank: high HP and armor, strong melee attack, and the retaliate ability
  • Coastal Sentry: amazingly strong attacker, with double 5 melee atack and piercing; not that big hp, so perfect protected behind main tank
  • Deeplurker: high melee attacker with poison and opportunity; given that this summoner also gives trample to every unit, opportunity is even handier here.
  • Merdaali Guardian: great support with heal and repair
  • Venari Wavesmith: decent magic attack and protect ability
  • Swamp Spitter: decent ranged attack and another repair ability, so extra support

My opponent used a very strong summoner, Jacek, boosting speed and providing scattershot; this can be great or not so, depending on randomness! Gargoya in the front, followed by a strong sneak attacker, Tenyii Striker; followed by two strong ranged attackers, Lava Launcher and Rush Townsend (this one with ambush, so extra attack!); and finishing with another sneak attacker, Uraeus, and one of my favourite cards, Contess Sinash!

I was unsure of the outcome, because if the ranged attackers with piercing hitted my support cards, things could go south really quick!

First attacks almost killd my wavesmith, but finishing round 1, Diemonshark eliminated enemy tank and proceeded to trample the second card!

Round 2 proceeded with some cards being very low on hp, but still holding on. Lava launcher reached tank, but lost its armour...

... and at Diemonsthark's turn, another kill + trample!

And then it was Coastal Sentry's time to shine: with only Uraeus and Countess left, one strike cleared Uraeus and victory was assured!
