Hola.

Net.

Hello. In the special month for breast cancer awareness I welcome you to my blog and especially to my column Mujer con "M" de mamá from the community Womentribe. As we know, October is a special time of the year that is painted pink because there are many information and awareness campaigns about this deadly disease that affects many women. Although men can also be victims of this type of cancer, the possibility of suffering from it is lower and the number of cases is minimal compared to the female population.

However, all of us, women and men, must show interest in knowing the risks of suffering it and the techniques to detect the signs, which can be from the practice of medical studies, such as a mammography and also the exploration that each one can do at home. It is worth mentioning that breast cancer is the most frequent type of cancer, so it represents a threat for everyone, since anyone can suffer from it, even if we have healthy lifestyle habits and no family history. This is something scary, but more than fear, we must raise awareness of this reality, so I invite you to put the magnifying glass on the breasts during the pink month and throughout the year. 🌺🌺

As Womentribe is a community for women and for men too, we cannot overlook the pink month. Therefore, from this space I join as a woman with "M" for mom and I will share with you some experiences of friends who have suffered from this type of cancer. So, friends, here is my contribution from Womentribe in the pink month.

Nearby cases

I want to tell you about three different cases, where the victims of breast cancer are women of different ages who have bravely faced and suffered over way but only one is still alive fighting the hard battle. I have seen the family suffer, doing everything possible in a country like Venezuela where the economic resources of the population are so low and the neglect in hospitals is very high.

Also, it is striking that the three women are mothers from a very young age and according to medical studies the risks of breast cancer are lower in women who have children and especially at an early age. I am referring to a reproductive age between 18 years old and under 30 years old. So, as I said at the beginning of this post we are all candidates to develop breast cancer and it is best to be attentive to make the screening, especially if we have more than 40 years even if our breasts look in appearance well.

These are the three known cases I want to share with you:

🌺🌺 Lennis' mom, my friend and neighbor. She was a sexagenarian lady, who gave birth to several children very young. I remember she suffered horrors with a skin carcinoma so bad that it spread to one of her breasts because she developed metastasis that affected her skin in the armpit area, it was spreading to her shoulder and literally her skin was falling apart. He received little treatment until they amputated the entire affected area, from the shoulder to the breast, logically losing the arm. This was not the solution, it was a palliative that had to be done together with radiotherapies or chemotherapies, I do not remember well. Well, treatments are expensive and there is not always support from the community. The truth is that not a single session of that treatment could be done and he died. He lost the war.

🌺🌺 The mother of a teacher of my son Alan. The lady with a little over 40 years old and who had given birth to her children at a young age, was for several years battling with breast cancer in a first breast, until she had a mastectomy. After the operation she was happy, even though she had lost a breast, something that means a lot to a woman, but she looked recovered and that was what mattered to her. Months passed and it turned out that the cancer appeared again, but in the other breast. This time, she became depressed, she no longer had the strength to fight, her daughters did what they could and the community supported them, but it was not enough. The lady died. She lost the war.

🌺🌺 My mom's friend. A woman in her forties who also had her children at an early age. She is diagnosed with breast cancer in one breast, complies with treatment with the support of family and community but finally undergoes a mastectomy. Soon after, almost immediately, she is diagnosed with cancer in the other breast. The solution is to remove it. She has battled cancer and depression. Until now she is still fighting because the cancer does not let her in total freedom.

My final recommendation is for all women with "M" for mom and the gentlemen reading me, if you are 40 years old or older, you need to have an annual mammogram to rule out any breast abnormalities. It is also important to do an individual self-examination by touching and exploring your breasts as recommended by doctors in order to detect any formation or discomfort, no matter how small. Let's give importance to everything we see abnormal in our body.

I recommend reading the information on Cancer.Net.
