Hello, welcome to my blog and to another edition of Mirad a los Niños, from the community for personal growth, Holos&Lotus. Before I continue I want to thank you for the receptivity to the previous topic, which was about boredom in the little ones and well, the truth is that there were very attractive participations, which allowed us to see its negative side but as something good. It sounds strange, doesn't it? Well yes, that happens because we were able to present the positive side of being bored.

Later, in another publication I will present the summary of that initiative and its participations. For now, let's move on to the new topic that occupies us in this edition, which seems to me to be timely when we have the children at home for the Christmas vacations. As parents we are happy, although there are those who are not so happy because they feel they have to give a lot of attention to the children now that they are free from school, but I can also tell you that their children may not be so happy with the parents or caregivers now that they are spending more time together.

To care for him or to overwhelm him?

It turns out that giving attention to children is misunderstood by some adults, who pretend to be their assistants in absolutely everything, preventing them from fending for themselves. When we are on top of them, attending to the child in an exaggerated way, we tire them and we tire ourselves as well. Overprotection hurts them, limits them and makes them unhappy, being children who do not know how to fend for themselves and in the end they need it.

Let them solve problems

I mean that from a very young age children should learn to think and fend for themselves, defining by themselves the best way to solve small problems that may arise in daily life. Notice, the simple act of the child picking up the ball he has thrown allows him to think and develop independence. Our role is to observe their reactions, waiting for the child to make a decision in a problematic situation and then solve it.

There are many examples, such as the child choosing the clothes to wear and getting dressed. Of course, if he is not doing it right, according to his age, guidance is justified, just guidance, but let him do it and from the mistakes he makes he will learn to do it right. It may seem cruel, but what is cruel is to prevent the child from learning to think, make decisions and solve problems. Let's remember that as parents our duty is to take care of them and form their character. Being around them should be a healthy experience for both children and parents. So, on vacation as you spend more time together remember that you can suggest solutions to the children but you "should not" solve their problems.

If you find it difficult...

Look at yourself in every child.
