A dangerous little guy this! (Melierax canorus) Today I saw him for the first time and I was surprised to see him appear at our home, in a city suburb.
As you can see here, he has taken a bird, but they can also take larger prey such as wild hares.
I am amazed that he would hunt in the territory of the much larger "Dark Shouldered Kite" a falcon that has taken up residence here in the south of our city, Johannesburg! (I have posted about the Kite before)
Normally predators are territorial and if this guy continues to hunt here, we are going to see a fight sooner than later. I only hope that I can witness this fight with my camera.
