What can I say - I am not a People Magazine type of guy.
I do not give two hoots about which celebrity is sleeping with/dating/marrying/cheating on/ breaking up with/divorcing another celebrity. Nor do I care which celebrity has put on weight or might be anorexic.
I like the News App on my iPhone, but articles from People, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc just needlessly clutter my news feed. Indicating I do not like them, seems to make no difference.
I am interested in technology and business and in these areas the News App gives me a pretty good selection of articles from CNBC, Fox Business, Fortune, Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, Investor's Business Daily, Barron's, etc.
But it is politics where the Apple's News App on the iPhone drives me absolutely crazy.
I think it is fair to say I lean Libertarian - fiscally responsible and socially neutral. The Channels and Topics I have selected to follow reflect that leaning. Apple seems to ignore those preferences and floods my newsfeed with articles from:
- CNN (Fake News) - which it keeps suggesting I follow and I keep rejecting
- Vice
- NPR
- Slate
- New York Magazine
- Splinter
- Bustle
- Mother Jones
- ProPublica
- Vogue, etc.
These left wing and far left wing outlets make up the majority of articles that appear in my news feed. Why?
- And with the For You tab, it’s easier than ever to find the stories that matter most to you.
- top news organizations and indie publications. Choose the ones you want to follow so you can get the news that interests you
- The more you read, the better News gets at understanding your interests. And now it’s even more personalized. Top Stories chooses the stories that are relevant to you and delivers them to your screen, while the Today widget keeps you up to date throughout the day. News stays on top of the stories you’re interested in. So you can, too.
- News lets you easily control your notification preferences, so you’re only informed about the stories you care about most.
- You can always edit what you follow and remove those you’re no longer interested in.
I understand Apple is a left leaning company - but I did pay them a chunk of change for the iPhone - which included the News App which is supposed to deliver news based on my likes and preferences.
So I say to Apple - deliver what you promised in your advertising - and please stop shoving your politics down my throat.
