I have a hankering to write a good poem
one that's inspiring and deep
I ask the hard questions
and search for some answers
but darling I'm coming up blank
The ham needs defrosting
the short ribs are fair
my veggies are lacking
no time to go there
No vegans are coming
so that problem is moot
my table will be laden
with animal flesh, fat and loot
My to do list is long
and is freaking me out
I've no idea how I'll do it
so instead I'll speak out
I'll write a poem
I have time to do that.
This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge.
I set my timer for 4:30, but had written a tremendous amount in just 2:30 minutes, so I stopped to proofread, then deleted A LOT. A bit of tinkering and I had a sensible poem at 5:00. I've never liked writing in rhyme, but now I see the trick is to do it in freewrite. The bones get set down. I think this poem has good bones.
