This VW was designed by Carrozzeria Ghia, an Italian design house that was also used by Chrysler and Studebaker. The Car was built by coach builder Karmann, though some of these were also built in Brazil. The Karmann Ghia was frequently modified by installing the Porsche 6 cylinder boxer motor. This modification only required sheet metal work to create adequate clearance as the Porsche mill would bolt right up to the VW Trans-axle with just 4 bolts. The underpinnings of this Car were based on the type 1 VW Beetle but the Karmann Ghia was about 300mm wider.
