Three Bridges” loop done using interval walking, because I had an appointment in the morning for a guided bike tour of the former TXL airport grounds, which are currently under renovation. And it was a truly fantastic tour of this gigantic open-air site. My highlight was riding up and down the 60-meter-wide and approximately 2.4-kilometer-long runway with my hands off the handlebars and my arms outstretched, the only thing better is flying. We also learned a lot from our very friendly tour guide, Drea, who is brimming with knowledge and stories, about the nature of the site, its history, present, and future. Just letting my gaze wander over this vast expanse the whole time was very liberating for the mind. The photo of the runway lighting system holds two little surprises. In the lower left, you can see the airport control tower, and in the lower right, the TV tower. The triangular structure with the kestrels, whose beautiful feathers I was able to collect as a souvenir, is not a hangar, as many people think, but a sound test facility for jet engines. For us, anyway, this supposed pyramid used to be the hangar where they hid the UFOs back in the days ;)

Ein weiterer recht warmer Morgen ohne viel Wind und der Morningwalk musste sich heute auf eine sportliche, im Interval-Walking, gegangene Drei-Brücken-Runde beschränken, denn ich hatte Vormittags eine Verabredung zu einer Fahrradführung über das im Umbau befindliche ehemalige Flughafengelände des TXL. Und das war eine wahrlich großartige Tour über dieses gigantische Freigelände. Mein Highlight war freihändig und mit ausgebreiteten Armen die 60 m breite und ca. 2,4 km lange Runway rauf und runter zu fahren, nur fliegen ist schöner. Wir haben von der sehr freundlichen Tourführerin Drea, die voller Wissen und Geschichten steckt, auch viel gelernt über die Natur des Geländes, seine Geschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft. Alleine den Blick die ganze Zeit über diese Weite schweifen zu lassen, war sehr befreiend für den Kopf. Das Foto von der Befeuerungsanlage der Runway hat zwei kleine Überraschungen in sich. Unten links seht ihr den Flughafen-Tower und unten rechts den Fernsehturm. Das Dreieck mit den Turmfalken, deren hübsche Federn ich als Erinnerung sammeln konnte, ist kein Hangar, wie viele denken, sondern eine Schalltestanlage für Düsenantriebe. Für uns war diese vermeintliche Pyramide damals jedenfalls immer der Hangar, wo sie die UFOs versteckt hatten ;)
