If you don't live in North America you don't have a clue what this is. You can't connect it with anything specific, it's just a funny word.
Like flip-flops for instance or something similar.
But behind these two short words, you can find centuries of history.
It's an amazing atmosphere. A mixture of colors, drum beating, and singing. You can feel a strange energy floating in the air.
At least that was my experience at this event.
Here are some details from Wikipedia:
A modern pow wow is a specific type of event for Native American people to meet and dance, sing, socialize and honor their cultures. Pow wows may be private or public. There is generally a dancing competition, with many different types of traditional dances, music, and regalia, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow wows vary in length from a one-day event to major pow wows called for a special occasion which can be up to one week long.
The whole tribe is dancing in the circle.
Here's the chief.
Some old and wise ladies.
Two modern warriors.
Teens are following their ancestor's tradition too.
Here is the main and only instrument.
Women at their favorite job.
Gossip.
Tired and hungry.
There is not much to comment on these photos. They speak for themselves.
And most of them are blurry.
Sorry about that, but it's difficult to get a good shot because they are in the move most of the time.
If you ever visit Nort America do the planning right and don't miss Pow wow out.
Enjoy your Sunday if you still have some left.
