I went down the subway for the first time during the war. The spirit of war is felt there more than anywhere else because of special security measures. Some stations still serve as shelters for the townspeople. Now there are fewer of them, because the city is generally calmer. Transport runs less frequently than before (once every 15-20 minutes), but this is an important artery for moving around the city. All public transport in Kyiv is free during wartime. The city is in full swing, there are many young people on the streets and even children appear. Many of my colleagues and acquaintances are planning to return to Kyiv in the second half of May or when fuel appears.
Спустилася у метро вперше за час війни. Дух війни відчувається там сильніше, ніж деінде через спеціальні заходи безпеки. Деякі станції досі є укриттями для городян. Нині їх там менше, адже у місті загалом спокійніше. Транспорт ходить рідше, ніж раніше (раз на 15-20 хвилин), але це важлива артерія руху по місту. Весь громадський транспорт у Києві ходить безкоштовно під час війни. Місто вирує, на вулицях багато молоді і навіть з'являються діти. Багато моїх колег і знайомих планують повертатися до Києва в другій половині травня або коли з'явиться бензин.

Yesterday I described the difficult situation at Azovstal in Mariupol. One of the main news of the day for me was the press conference of the deputy commander of the Azov Regiment Sviatoslav Palamar and intelligence officer Illia Samoilenko. Intense fighting is still ongoing on the territory of the plant. As for the evacuation of civilians, the fighters noted that they could not confirm that they managed to evacuate everyone, because many may still be under the rubble. In addition, they accused some politicians of cynicism when they say that a "successful operation" was carried out and "everything worked out." They recalled that the bodies of the dead, both civilian and military, as well as the wounded, still remain at Azovstal. Palamar says that they have been asking for the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol for 2.5 months. During this time, tens of thousands of people died, while several hundred were evacuated. Despite the incredibly difficult situation, the fighters note that they stick to their oath and will keep the defense to the end.

Однією з головних новин дня для мене була прес-конференція заступника командира полку Азов Святослава Паламара та офіцера управління розвідки Іллі Самойленка. На території заводу все ще точаться інтенсивні бої. Щодо евакуації цивільних бійці зазначили, що не можуть підтвердити, що вдалося евакуювати всіх, адже багато хто може ще перебувати під завалами. Крім того, вони звинуватили деяких політиків у цинізмі, коли ті говорять про те, що було проведено "успішну операцію" і "все вдалося". Вони нагадали, що на Азовсталі все ще залишаються тіла загиблих – як цивільних, так і військових – а також поранені. Паламар говорить про те, що вони просять про евакуацію цивільних з Маріуполя вже 2,5 місяці. За цей час загинули десятки тисяч людей, тоді як евакуйовано кілька сотень. Also today, on Mother's Day, US First Lady Jill Biden met with Olena Zelenska in Uzhgorod and visited the internally displaced people of Ukraine.

Звісно, будь-яку нормальної людини ця картина шокує. Бачити такі руйнування цивільної інфраструктури, житлових будинків, шкіл, дитячих садків, бібліотек... Це непросто і дуже протвережує. Тому дуже важливо, щоб лідери різних країн приїжджали в такі місця і бачили це на власні очі, адже те, що ти переживаєш і пропускаєш через себе, має на тебе сильніший емоційний ефект, ніж новини з телевізора. Також сьогодні, у День матері, перша леді США Джил Байден зустрілася в Оленою Зеленською в Ужгороді та відвідала українських перселенців.

Українська влада попереджає, що в цей день є підвищений ризик обстрілів та провокацій, тому важливо не ігнорувати сигнали повітряної тривоги та залишатися у безпеці. Адже ніколи не відомо, що спаде старому маразматику на думку.
