Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. No doubt technology has affected human lives in different ways, and education was not left out; technology made learning a lot easier and more efficient.

Gone are the days one must visit the library before they can carry out research; these days, from the comfort of your home, you can carry out research using a smartphone, desktop computer, or laptop. All you need is a device and a good network connection, and you are set to carry out your research because all the answers you are looking for are on the internet.

The effect of technology on education is making our traditional way of reading fade and become a thing of the past as many students now read using ebooks and online platforms since carrying our paperbacks around can be quite stressful and heavy.

No doubt technology has affected our educational system in numerous ways. Both tutors and students are enjoying the stress-free method of study that technology has brought to our doorsteps.

How Does Technology Affect Me As A Student?

As a student, I will say technology affects me both negatively and positively. The positive aspects include the fact that I really don't have to undergo so much stress to get an assignment done as I can get answers from the internet. I also have classes online using Google Classroom; from there, I can submit my assignment and mark my attendance without having to leave my room.

Like I said earlier, technology has its negative effect on me as well. Sometimes I spend over three hours on an assignment I am supposed to spend just ten to fifteen minutes on because I keep getting distracted by notifications from social media platforms. Once I do, I won't be able to focus anymore; I just have to visit these social media platforms.

Also in a classroom, instead of giving the lecturer my undivided attention, I find myself replying to chats on WhatsApp, and my attention ends up being divided. With a divided attention, I only get to pick up a few things from the lecture, and I am left to stress later because I go back to read in order to catch up.

Slowly, I am learning how to balance both, knowing when to be on my device and when not to be. That way, the lecturer gets my undivided attention, and it saves me the stress of catching up later.

The Future Of Education Depends Greatly On Technology.

Many people still believe technology won't have a greater impact on education than it has currently, but that's a lie. If technology folds today, education will follow suit. In Nigeria, lecturers have a tradition of solving the easier questions as an example in class and giving students the difficult questions as a take-home assignment. In cases like this, YouTube videos have been our saving grace.

I have come across a question that, even after working with three textbooks, we couldn't arrive at the answer, but after watching just one video on YouTube, we were able to overcome it, and it saved us the stress. Many believe technology is making students lazy, but it can only make you lazy if you let it or depend completely on it.

Thanks for reading my post.
