Hello everyone.

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners Featured Post. Before technology, every friendship and connection had to be one that happened after a meeting or physical contact. For you to call someone your friend simply meant you guys must have met once or twice. But today, we have friends we have never met, and we have friends we have never even seen what they look like, but yet we call them friends.

Those days, there had to be some kind of connection, and you had to be sure that you and the person were compatible before you called them your friend. But today, we depend on online vibes and chats to call a person a friend, forgetting that there is more to a person than just how they chat and vibe online. A person has likes and dislikes, things they see as hobby and things they see as work or stress and these things vary from one Individual to another, and just an online engagement is not enough to expose you this part of them, probably meeting and realising they are not into the things that you are into can ruin everything built online. The friendship our forefathers and fathers have are way more stronger than what we have in this generation because of how the friendship started differs. In this generation we have many friendships that started online, no physical connection, no bond just chats and indoors unlike the old days.

I am speaking from experience when I say that many online friendships don't survive past the first day of meeting. Because after meeting them and spending a few hours or even days with them, you come to realise that you are either compatible or you are not compatible at all. When I was looking for a roommate back in college, I had friends online, and we talked about being roommates since we believed we were close. But when they visited the room and displayed certain characters, that was the end of both our friendship and plans to be roommates.

Some people are completely different in person from who they are or pose to be online. I have met people who can make all the noise in the world behind their keyboard, but in person, they cannot say more than four or five words. Some people are very chatty online, but in person, they bring a completely different vibe to the table. Now you meet them expecting them to come with the personality you know online, only for them to bring something else to the table. Now your expectations are completely different from what you got, and you won't be able to continue the friendship because you guys don't really think alike, or they possess certain qualities you cannot work with.

Now, making this decision means letting go of certain dreams and aspirations you had, and plans of building something with them.

On the long run, online friendships don't run deep. They are just there, and as humans, especially in this generation, we need friendships that are solid. Some online friendships build something beautiful, but at least 90% of the time, online friendships turn out to be a flop, especially after meeting in person.
