Hello, everyone.
I welcome my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. The advancement of technology has made a lot of things easy, and at the same time, it has exposed us to more scams than we can actually count. Back in the day, failing for scams required the scammers coming to your house or meeting you in person on the streets; there had to be a meeting before we fell for scams, but today, thanks to technology, we fall for scams right from the comfort of our homes. We don't even need to step outside before we become victims of scams; all you need is a social media account, which almost everybody has today and is creating even more.
The same time technology made life really easy; those days only those around you could crowd fund you or support your cause because there was no way to reach those who are not nearby or for you to let them know what was happening, but today, thanks to technology again, it is very easy to get crowd funded. People far and near, people from across the globe, can easily support your cause without having to travel halfway around the world to do so; they send their support from the comfort of their homes. With both, we can see that technology is a double-edged sword; it makes life easy and makes life quite hard as well by making it easy to fall for scams.
Sourcing funds online has become very easy, and like I said before, it is thanks to technology. I have seen many people get the help they need; many people have been able to go from being homeless to being homeowners, not because they raised the money themselves, but probably because a content creator spotted them and then their followers were able to crowd fund and help raise the money to take them off the streets. How easy it is to crowd fund today is as a result of how much technology has advanced. It is also very easy to scam donors with a phishing link or site.
I have seen countless videos online for crowdfunding and people turning up and making donations, but it's funny how sometimes the amount presented by those in charge of the crowdfunding turns out to be way lesser than what is expected, seeing the turnout, but since they are the ones in charge of the account, you are forced to accept what they present. Many times after investigation, you come to realize that those in charge of the account were not transparent at all and took some money for themselves; they end up defrauding donors and not being honest at all.
It is nearly impossible to be transparent when it comes to crowd funding, but I think the only way to be completely transparent is if the crowd funding is done with cryptocurrency. That way it is difficult for people to fall for scams, and then the amount going in and out of the account can easily be traced by those in charge of the account and the donors, and that way the level of transparency is achieved, but then not everyone can use cryptocurrency, so if we decide to go crypto, some people might not be able to donate, but we will achieve some level of transparency, and there will be a reduced percentage of scams.
